Although Mom may have been treated, once fleas infest an environment like that, it would be nearly impossible to completely eliminate them. You have the perfect opportunity to get rid of them, because it's a whole new environment. Treat the puppy before you introduce it to your flea free home, and it should be very effective

LOL fleas do not carry viruses..But they do cause tapeworms if ingested.
Unfortunately fleas are a big problem this time of year, especially in the southern states. Breeders can do everything to keep them at bay, but the fact is, they are not easy to get rid of. And a breeder cannot always help it.
Give the puppy a bath with flea shampoo, if the puppy is over 6 weeks it is safe to use it on them. Make sure to leave it on for at least 5 minutes, I know it's hard cus they shiver..
Go to your vet and get some Frontline Top Spot, this is a topical and you put it on the pups back between the shoulder blade, and a littel above the tail on that part of the back. Top spot is safe for young puppies and works great!
Then wash all his bedding in hot water. It may take a few days to see them go away. You shouldn't have to flea bomb your home either but if you do then I would use a powder not a bomb (they are worthless and poison) use fleabusters powder. at http://www.fleabusters.com they guarantee their product will keep the fleas away for one year! And I have used it many times.
PS: make sure you get a tapeworm pill from your vet. If they have fleas you can pretty much bet they will have tape worms.

Fleas can attack at any time! They are especially prevalent during the whelping season. It doesn't mean that they are always in the kennel. If the breeder doesn't believe in poisonous pesticides, it is often hard to keep the kennels flea free.
BUT, if you don't trust the breeder, you don't want to keep the puppy.
Just the fact that you doubt the breeder's reputability, is enough to show that you shouldn't buy their puppy.
When you have the right pup, you will have NO doubts of its quality. You will just know that you have the dog that was meant for you.
If you keep this puppy, do have it vet checked, including a smear for tape worms, as they accompany fleas.

It is never normal for dogs of any age to have flees. It may be more hazardous for a young puppy to have fleas since the fleas can carry viruses.
If you have a young puppy that has fleas pick up a flea bath for puppies and fog your house to make sure all the fleas and eggs are killed in your house.

Yes because the mom has fleas that's the only way they could get them. Bathe them with Flea soap it won't hurt them just don't let them lick it or drink the water. use a fine tooth comb while they are soapy and comb the fleas off work quickly though only have it on them less than the 5 minutes forbigger dogs.

NO. The breeder should be informed she has a problem.
Fleas can be life threatening to young puppies. I raise Yorkies, and my dogs have had fleas one time. I am very vigilant, that is the only way. Also take stool sample to vet, to check for other parasites, tape worms, hook worms, whip worms, and common round worms.

No it is not. And I would have to wonder how loosely I used the words reputable breeder. A reputable breeder has their animals in immaculate shape with NO parasites. If they do have a parasite problem sells are closed off till it is taken care of and all pets are once again vet certified in good clean health. Remember parasites carry other diseases as well.

They will have fleas if their mother has fleas. Especially if their
mother is an outdoor cat. Most indoor cats - the purebreds
are kept inside, so they are flea free.
They really shouldn't have fleas if from a breeder....

They shouldn't. But the bottom line is that now you must get rid of the fleas. Make sure to purchase a product for puppies, as the stronger chemicals for adult dogs might be harmful to puppies.
