I am trying to promote my website http://www.tratosnow.com and the promotion is that for every fifty posts on the forums one dollar will be donate to the Nature Conservancy. I believe that it would be a good cause. This is the only charity that comes to my mind when I think of the enviornment. I understand that cash donations will not stop fossil fuel burning, but there are other methods for charities to save the enviornment. What are other enviornmental charities besides The Nature Conservancy you believe are worthwhile? What do you think they can do with the money?

The Arborday Foundation, The National Wildlife Federation, The Rainforest Action Network; those all immediately come to mind

1st Link Is the Charity Navigator which searches 5000 different charities and gives you information about each with their financials along with a rating of the organization. A MUST READ!

What's so great about this site is that from the home page you can pick what cause you want to check out---like environment. And even then there are two different choices.

For you I picked Environmental Protection and Conservation group which has 265 charities rated. If you do a search clicking on their overall rating, you could better choose which charity would be a good fit for you. (Ratings go from highest to lowest.)

So that last link is probably the best and most important becuse it links right to the ratings page.

2nd Link (Which was a featured link on Yahoo's pages)
National Resources Defense Council
Founded in 1970, Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) works to safeguard the Earth: its people, its plants and animals, and the natural systems on which all life depends. We work to restore the integrity of the elements that sustain life.....etc, etc.

Your chosen charity is the 4th Link
The Nature Conservancy
Founded in 1951, The Nature Conservancy is a leading international organization dedicated to preserving the diversity of life on Earth. We work to preserve the plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive.

Best of luck!

I agree that the Charity Navigator is a good place to start. But also consider donating to local environmental groups, such as a local wildlife rehabilitation center, a nature center, or a group that is working to save a specific forest, lake, or wetland, or even a group that is trying to get local polluters to stop polluting. Rather than give to a huge organization that may have high administrative costs and/or where your donation gets lost in a sea of others, when you give to a small, local group, you can see how they spend your money, you can monitor what they do and perhaps even volunteer to help them with their projects.

I'm not saying that large organizations don't do good work; they do. But small, local environmental efforts need help, too.

I can't remember the names of the groups, but I remember there was at least one charity that used the money to purchase and preserve regions of rainforest; another program was something like "Adopt a [insert name of endangered animal species]" to help save what small populations remain.

I see no reason why it cannot be seen that "gifts" be given to random citizens just as it is for stars for their behavior. For example, someone shows up for grocery detail and bam, a basket of items to encourage more, ah, um, well. Anyway, if it were to end forever more the space and energy and resources spent on those emails that promise anything whatsover, be it even a toothpick dicarded in 1980, it would improve the future.

The donations so collected can help provide employment to people in need but it is absolutely unlikely that there will be any tangible results in the nature conservancy!
