Great job teaching the boy to cook!
Here are 2 recipes my family likes
Bacon mushroom chicken
2 tlbs melted butter
chicken breast
seasoning salt
crushed garlic
slices bacon
mushrooms (I use fresh and alot but it is per taste)
heavy whipping cream
preheat oven to 350. Melt butter in 9x13 pan. Add chicken sprinkle with seasoning salt, flip, sprinkle again. Top with garlic, add strips of bacon (i do 2 slices per breast) top with 'shrooms. Bake 1 hour.
When done add drippings from pan to cream, heat over med until it starts to thicken. About 5-7 min. pour over chicken, serve.
Chicken Enchilidas
1 tlbs butter
1/2 green onion chopped
1/2 tsp garlic powder
4 oz diced green chilies
1 can cream mushroom soup
1/2 cup sour cream
1 1/2 cups chicken breast (you can use canned chicken or boil real breasts and shredd or dice)
1 cup cheddar cheese
flour tortillas
1/4 cup milk
1 can olives (optional- my family just loves them)
Preheat oven to 350. In large pan, on the stove, melt butter, add onions, cook til tender. Add garlic powder, chilies, soup and sour cream. Mix well. Reserve 3/4 of this in a separate bowl. In pan add chicken and 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, stir.
Fill tortillas with this mix. Roll up, seam side down, place in 9x13 pan (spray this with Pam).
Add milk to remaining sauce in bowl, stir pour over tortillas, top with cheese.
Cover with foil bake 20 min. Take foil off bake 10-15 more minutes.
This is a fun 1 my boys like
Omlet in a Bag (keep in mind you only have to use ingredients you like...all my boys eat are ham, eggs and cheese but they do like "helping" chop)
2 eggs (my hubby eats 4)
2 slices ham chopped
chopped onion
chopped jalapeno
slices olives
chopped mushrooms
chopped tomatoes
cheese
Start water boiling in a large pot.
Crack eggs in ziploc freezer bag (gallon for 4 eggs, quart for 2 eggs) seal bag, shake to mix egg. I saute the onion, jalapenos and mushrooms in a little butter. Add all ingredients to bag. Shake again. Add bag(s) to water when it is at a hard boil. 20 min. for 4 eggs, 13 min. for 2 eggs.

Tuna Noodle Casserole Recipe
I have been making this recipe for over 25 years and think it came from my mother originally but can't be sure. It has a creamy texture from the cheese added and the mayonnaise which makes it sumptuous. Can be doubled easily.
1 can cream of celery soup
1 (6 ounce) can tuna
1 (15 ounce) can Veg-All or mixed vegetables
1/2 cup milk
1 cup cubed cheddar cheese
1/2 stalk celery, chopped finely
1 small onion, finely chopped (if you prefer use onion powder)
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 (8 ounce) package egg noodles, cooked ( macaroni may be used)
4-6 servings 1 casserole
50 minutes 20 mins prep
prepare and mix all ingredients in large bowl and put into covered casserole dish to bake at 350 for 30-45 min or until bubbly.
May be topped with buttered bread crumbs if crusty top is desired.

each side. add sauce for 10. on med-low temp
Shish kabobs...make up your own kind or here are some of mine.
Chicken and pineapple kabobs! Cut both into 1 inch cubes
cook on grill for 30 minutes on med-low or until done.
Steak, shrimp and veggies on a kabob.
Green&Red peppers,mushrooms,onion,tomato
Another easy recipe is my burgers for the grill or frying pan
Use some lipton onion soup mix and Monteray steak seasoning
in your ground beef. Just nead seasoning into meat well and
cook!
In the oven make Homemade pizza together
Buy a pizza kit at grocery store like geno's or chef boyardee
buy mozza or pizza cheese and whatever toppings you like,
Make breakfast together! Most kids love pancakes or french toast! Have fun and it's nice to see a caring step father connect with his son!

Pizza (start with crust from scratch...and go from there) Have him create his 'own' version
Baked fried chicken (safer than deep fat frying)
Mashed Potatoes and a salad
My grandson loves macaroni and cheese and hotdogs - so we make a casserole of both with extra cheese on top
Bisquick has a recipe on the box that kids love(cheeseburger pie--basically ground beef and the crust is made of bisquick and cheese)
Breakfast for dinner. Our kids asked for this as a treat: Waffles (get a waffle machine - not expensive- family size. Make extras and after it cools, freeze or put in fridge so he can have waffles during the week for breakfast). Pancakes. Eggs (teach him how to crack egg and fry or make scrambled eggs). Biscuits and honey....etc
A soup is always fun.
Brownies or cup cakes (have him decorate)
A poster suggested the Kraft website. That is a good website. Whatever you do, have him follow the instructions in the recipe - this is a skill he will alwasy need in school.
Teach to grill on the bbq - marinating, to cooking.
have fun!

If you have a pressure cooker and know how to use it then get some ribs, cut them in size to fit the pressure cooker, place them with enough water to come up to the top of the ribs and add in some of your favorite sauce but not a great amount in the pressure cooker and once pressure is up on the cooker and the indicator is wobbling, shaking or showing that pressure is up, reduce heat to medium and cook for 14 minutes. Afterwards allow the pressure out then open the pot and place a little more of your favorite sauce on them and grill them on the charcoal or gas grill for a few minutes to add a crispy crust to them brush them again with sauce and enjoy the most tender and best tasting ribs you though you never could cook.

You didn't say how old your stepson is, and that's important. If he's old enough to wield a knife, teach him how to slice and chop. That way he can help prep anything that gets prepared for dinner. My 6 year old daughter can use the veggie peeler, and a paring knife. I don't let her use the chef's knife on carrots yet, but she peels them for me, and I cut them up. Is he old enough to work the stove? Teach him to use the tools, and then teach him about the ingredients, and he'll start putting the two elements together. Herb gardens are fun for kids, too. They can water and feed, and then harvest and utilize their efforts. that's true for vegetable gardens too, but that didn't pop into my head first because I don't have the room for that, but if you do, that could be a very satisfying way to increase his cooking knowledge

crepes (yummy french pancakes) are a delicious homemade wrap type thing that can be filled with whatever you like. They are easy to make too.
I use the recipe from the old "Joy of Cooking" and add more water to make them thinner.

Grilling is an art that all children (& adults), should learn. It is the easiest way to make inexpensive foods taste great AND (for the kids/kid in you), you get the excitement of working with a fire! (lol)
BBQ'ing or Grilling, chicken, steaks, fish, shrimp, veggies, is fun and SUPER easy. Here are some possible menu's you could share with your step-son:
1. Grilled "Miso" Tuna Steaks, "Dirty Rice", & your choice of grilled veggie .("Miso" is a fantastic marinade for "dense" fish like "Mahi", Tuna, Shark steak, "Swordfish", "Kingfish". It's usually found in oriental markets.)
2. 1 1/2 inch NY Strip Steaks, Baked Sweet (or Idaho) Potato, & grilled Green Beans (When grilling "choice/premium" cuts of beef-steak , it is important to cook it "Fast & HOT". Get your grill up to 500 degree's. Put steaks on fast, close the lid, wait 4-5 minutes, flip steaks, close lid, wait 4 minutes & they will be approx. medium/rare. Let your steaks "rest" for 5-8 minutes under some "foil". PS: Never "overcook" a $16 steak, its an effrontery to your skills as a cook & your taste-buds! (lol))
3. Grilled "Lemon Chicken Breasts", Pesto-Pasta Alfredo, fresh Garden Salad & "Texas Toast" (Marinate your chicken breasts in 1/4 cup of Olive Oil,1 TBsp aged Balsamic Vinegar, and 1 cup of fresh lemon juice, dash of salt , pepper/cayenne to taste) .
4.Skewerd BBQ Shrimp , various grilled Veggies, Polenta?Potato?Garlic toast?Southern style Grits with fresh chive , vidalia onion, & garlic? Up to you! (On a hot grill (450-500), Shrimp take no more than 7-9 minutes to cook, soooo, remember to lay the "sauce" on thick right before putting them on the grill.)
5.Smoked/W a "rub" Baby-Back Ribs , Corn on the cob, Baked Beans, (you can just "docter up" some "Bush's" Baked Beans by adding saute'd vidalia onion, TBL-spoon Brown sugar, half a can of "organic black-beans" & maybe a "pre-cooked", minced, smoked, beef, Brat), & your fav starch, ( potato, pasta, garlic toast, ETC.)
These are just some ideas you may like. If you want recipes and further info try Food tv.com. They have a TON of great recipes for grilling, BBqing, & Smoking .
I believe "grilling" is a fun way to spend an afternoon with any children. My kids always dig it! Good eating! & Good Luck!
