To have a piano appraised, don't take it to an antique dealer! Look in your phone book for a certified piano technician who specializes in piano restoration. (If you can't find one in the phone book, call up a piano technician who works at a university.) If you don't think that the piano is really worth much money, then consider selling it to a used piano dealer or a local school.

I would suggest getting the piano appraised by a professional first to see how much value the piao has. A local piano store should be able to help, or an antiques aution house or something of the like.

The idea of selling to a school is a good one, usually a guarrentee selling there. Also posting an ad at local coffee shops and such places would work as well

Since an upright piano is more compact, it is ideal for apartment/student dwellings. Try posting an ad at music departments of local colleges and universities, or even community music/arts schools--especially when school starts. If the price is right and the piano in pretty decent shape, you will quickly find a student who is anxious to have their own piano. And it won't cost you to just make a sign.

Or post it on Craigslist.com. It is free to post a listing, there is one just for Atlanta (and a lot of other cities as well), you receive an anonymous email address, and it is fast becoming a viable alternative to eBay. Did I mention that it is free? I just learned about it and have already bought several things. It is amazing!
I know you'll sell your piano quickly.

Depends on how much time you have, what the piano is worth, and how well networked you are. If you have some time and a good price is a goal, I'd recommend spreading the word through your social and professional network or newspaper ads. If time is an issue or price is not, I would recommend eBay.com
