I was in an accident in October of 2004. I went from 60mph to 0 upon hitting an object in the road. By the way, airbags hurt!!! At the time, and shortly thereafter, I thought I was fine. A little stiff, but nothing unbearable. About a year ago, my neck began locking up. I was unable to turn to either side. After several rounds of steroids and muscle relaxants, this became better. In the past few months, I have developed a numbness and lack of coordination in my left hand. (Of course I have to be left handed) This is effecting my writing ability and all other aspect of my life. I am a student with no insurance and unable to afford the $4,000 for an MRI. Over the past two days, the front of my right leg is numb. I discovered this when I fell going up a flight of steps. Does anyone have any suggestions or advise on what to do for this? I am at a loss and my doctor doesn't want me to go through another round of steroids for health reasons. Any advise or info would be great

I want to tread very carefully here. The MRI is the answer, unfortunately. Let me suggest that you consider doing a little shopping. Yes, shopping. Where I live, MRI prices vary wildly, and ALL the free-standing MRI places will give discounts for cash if you can manage it. As an example, a wrist MRI here charges out as much as 1500 to insurance plus the radiologist's fee. My patients cash out at 800 total, out the door, cash on the line.

I don't mean to seem dramatic here, but nerve damage due to compression is progressive and cumulative. In short, the longer you take to get fixed, the longer it will take to recover.

I don't know where you live, and I know you probably really don't want to consider the option, but there is probably a county or city facility that will work with you for what you can pay. As unattractive as it is, you really are going to have to think about it.

Shop around, don't be afraid to negotiate if you can front some cash. Be sure you get the MRI WITH the interpretation

Best of luck

Did you have x-rays, etc at the time of the accident? I have to say that I would be inclined to suggest the chiropractic method myself as I have had very good luck with this. (I was in 2 rear-end car accidents within a year!) I have also done the pain clinic thing and physical therapy with little results for myself. I would check into chiropractic or at least see if there is a place that offered low cost health care (free clinics are sometimes a route to pursue as well). Good Luck!

Basically help the body to heal itself. Best thing I know of, thats been around since 1985. The developer has a clinik/hospital in Texas where special cases can go and get treated using these same products. email me.
AGCGartner@yahoo.com if you have questions
You could also go to one of those chiropracter specials, that offer xrays and ajustments for an introductory price to see if you have pinched nerves and out of alightment bones.

There should have been a form you signed. Whenever widom teeth are removed, the feeling will be gone at least for a while where you are experiencing it. Mine felt "tingly" like when your foot falls asleep and it tickles to touch it - for about a year and a half. It's completely normal now (it's been 20 years) - can't remember when it became comepletely normal again. With wisdom teeth, that's what happens.

Sounds like a pinched nerve in your neck. You should see a chiropractor.
