If your in high school, I would excel academically and in sports and community service. Then, your senior year, apply to the United States Air Force Academy. You will need a letter from your area congressman to apply as well. This is a very prestigious school, and quite competitive to enter, but if you are accepted, you could apply to the pilot training program. Now, the AF Academy is a serious school, and you are treated like you are in boot camp the entire first year you are a Freshman. Many "wash out" and cannot handle the extreme mental and academic challenges. If this is your desire, the Air Force Academy is the way to go. Good luck.

Well...Of course your body needs to be physically fit. Your mind must be keen and sharp. I've heard that pilots now need to undergo some form of weapons training and more strict physical challenges. Pilots-in-training need to be able to work hard like those in the USMC, though not as rigorous as their harder challenges. Pilots would probably spend most of their time training with computer simulations. Lectures would definitely be frequent as well. The fun side being a pilot would be the joy of flight and freedom. Flying the developmental F-35 would be awesome...

I am a Naval Aviator.... being a fighter pilot is one great experince.... Fighter pilots make movie.... Bomber pilots make history.... if you are a multi role aircraft pilot you can do both.... I am a F/18 E pilot based on a carrier. Enjoy the life with the Navy.

I was a JSUPT instructor pilot at Vance AFB. Many of the answers above mention the Air Force Academy. Actually, you can go through UPT if you are from ROTC or OCS as well. Don't forget sister services, such as the Navy and Marine Corps as well. You can also apply directly to a Reserve or Air National Guard unit. I used to instruct Air Force students, Navy students, Marine Corps students, reserve students, and ANG students. I used to do this alongside fellow Air Force instructors, Navy instructors, and Marine Corps instructors.
I can tell you all about service academies, the lifestyles of military helicopter, fighter, tanker, and transport pilots. I can give all of the ins and outs of success at UPT. Feel free to personally message me anytime. Take care.

I'm not a USAF fighter pilot, but I have flown in some fighters, such as an F-4, Migs, and an F-16. It would be great to do that and get PAID for it!

yes, I really want to be a fighter pilot, ever since i saw my first thunderbirds airshow. I am going to study very hard and try to make it into the Air Force Academy, what is better than defending our country, doing what i love most (flying) and getting paid for it?

yes, i know a lot that wants to.. including my younger brother.. personally i'd still work on getting to a commercial piloting stat.
What i think of being a pilot is probly the same as what micheal schumacher thinks of racing cars, something i'd love to do.
