I've not heard of this and I spent years studying child development. There is absolutely no connection from my understanding. What usually happens is that some babies develop grossmotor skills faster but are developmentally slower in other areas such as verbal/speech development and vice versa. My daughter didn't crawl (she was a very late walker) but went straight to walking and she was very bright for her age. According to the pediatrician, a child usually excels developmentally in one area over another. A child usually develops in different areas in phases, usually not both areas simultaneously. Also, a child's environment plays a factor as well. A child that always gets picked up (and that's not a bad thing) is more likely to put off trying to move around independently. Finally, some babies just don't like to crawl. It just happens to be the child's preference. This has no connection to emotion.

NO thats not true. My daughter(now 12) never learned to crawl. One day out of the blue she stood up while holding onto the couch and then let go and starting walking. Seeing something so small start to walk like that kinda freaked us all out. She was only 8 1/2 months old. Today she is a sweetheart who makes friends very easily. Kids her age are just kinda drawn to her. Also she has no emotional problems what so ever.

I never heard such a thing. That doesn't even make sense. Unless the child's mother or father is preventing him or her from crawling and keeping him or her in a cage. THEN I can see the child having emotional problems. But not just because a baby doesn't crawl before walking.

I have to agree with everyone: no. Not crawling does not cause emotional problems. My son hated laying down or even sitting-he had to stand. He took his 1st solo steps at 8 1/2 mos and at 5 3/4 yrs old, he's been running and jumping ever since and is a most agreeable child.
And BTW, it doesn't matter whether a baby is breast fed or not; it's the amount of bonding you do with with child that determines the emotional and psychological "issues" that child will have. ;-)

Uhm... that's sounds like a load of crap.
I would say kids that learn to walk without learning to crawl first, might grow up to be better engineers or athletes or something, but not having emotional problems.

There are so many types of future indicators linked to the whole milestone thing....I think emotional well being has more to do with the household and the amount of affection given to the child -vs- in which order the child learned to ambulate.

It is not true . However skipping crawling does effect other areas of development. They need to crawl to learn to use both sides of their body and if they skip it they may experience gross motor delays as they get older ( ages 3-6)

I had never heard of that but who knows. I think it takes a while to learn to walk though and it seems logical to crawl first but you never know.
