I usually eat at typical, local restaurants when I´m abroad because I´m really interested in tasting the local food but ...

... once during a stay in a "new" (= where I haven´t been before) country, I visit Mc Donald´s because ...

... (believe me or not) the products don´t taste the same everywhere and there are some other differences, too.

e.g. in France, the packaging is made of a different material than in Austria,
in Turkey, it´s possible to have "Köfte" and "Ayran" ...

So: Mc Donald´s is not the same thing everywhere ...

I'm not a fan of McDonalds food, but when you are abroad in some of the more remotes parts of the world there is often a McDonalds. This is usually pretty safe in terms of hygene practices etc.

I prefer local food though, but sometimes you just get sick of rice with every meal!

Because it's cheap and convenient. But also, in one country I've been to, it's hard to get change for small purchases. McDonalds have no problem with changing large denomination notes, even for a soft drink.

It annoys me no end.

I McHate McDonalds and their incredibly McSh!t food and it really winds me up when I am on the other side of the world and one of the first things I see amongst a whole new culture is those McF*cking golden arches.

McDonalds is for people who are lazy.

Cheap, reliable, safe, especially if the country you are visiting has very spicy foods or you are unaccustomed to the cuisine of that country, Mac Donald's will always provide a Big Mac and fries with the golden arches on most of its packaging. Many tourists will always side with things they are accustomed to rather than experiment with different foods for fear of improper cooking methods.
