First, check your local laws. Police and lawmakers often assume that if you're using a treadmill, weight vest or pulling sled for your pit bulls - then you must be fighting them. In some counties it is illegal even to own a doggy-treadmill. And if you are fighting dogs - shame on you! Your dog and its opponent can suffer horrific and permanently disabling injuries, even if they "win". If these sub-humans want something to bet on, they should beat each OTHER to a pulp for the crowd's amusement.

If you're training to improve your dogs and get them some healthy exercise, this site has great gear for training dogs for weight pulls. You need a proerly designed PADDED harness to prevent injury. The dog must be full grown before you start to prevent serious joint injury. Start off slow and easy and make it fun! Much of competitive pulling (like weight trining for people) is mental - he'll try a lot harder for a big reward. Make sure you gradually increase the weight the dog is pulling by NO more than 10% a week.

I started to do this with my pits. What we did first was place small ankle weights on their legs to build up their leg mussels. Then we used an old tire for them to pull on a harness. We increased the tire size as the older own became way too easy. Training them to pull on command was the difficult task. We had to stop for one of my pit's hurt his knees which now needs surgery so we don't do any pulling any more.
