It is needed for cooking and we have done internet searches and it comes up as various different things.

Can you post the recipe so we can see the "ingredient" in context? Your recipe could be referring to one package of white cake mix, one package of white chocolate chips, one package of white almond bark, one package of white chili seasoning...it could be almost anything.
