One day you look around you and you realise that it is all just "stuff" and it doesn't matter. Unfortunately for some people this doesn't happen until after they have lost something more important.

Your question is both, but it's not like how you say it.
See people are themselves. In other words I am me.
However you can tell a lot about somebody by what they buy. You can almost tell everything about somebody by what they buy.
Think about this, even though there is a saying, "money can't buy you love" The truth is it does, but not like people think.
People buy cologns and perfumes, take others on dates, ect. ect. Some times not spending any kind of money is the way. In order to get a girl or guy you need to dress nice, but some times that could be a turn off. Pretty much what I am saying is what you buy or don't buy is what makes us attracted to others. So first impression about somebody is what they buy.
Next keeping friends, dates, ect. If your with an athletic croud you have to stay athletic. (fitness memberships, drugs, ect. ect.) No matter what kind of group you are in you normally have to buy things.
so the answer to your question is I am who I am, but to others I am what I buy.

hell no. i'm not what i buy. i can't even buy anything in the first place so i don't really have much of a choice.
