More than likely this was a temporary filling. When a root canal is completed they will place a temporary filling and will ask that you come back later to have a permanent restoration placed, whether is be a filling or a crown. Almost all teeth that have had a root canal need a crown (unless it is one of your front teeth). They need a crown because teeth that have had root canals become very dry and brittle making it very easy for them to break in a way that they tooth can't be saved. And dentists don't want you investing all that money into the root canal just to go and break the tooth, making it so that the tooth has to be taken out. Hope this answers your question. Good luck

It depends on whether the root canal is finished or not, but either way it is not good to let body fluids contaminate the canal, it is better if it is sealed. If you can't not contact a dentist, there is a temporary filling material sold at some pharmacies that you could use to fill in the hole until you can get into your dentist. Best to keep the tooth sealed.

You will last just fine until the dentist is available. There is no nerve in the tooth and you can't do much damage between now and Wednesday. Flush it with water and you will be fine.

That's a sign to visit your friendly neighborhood dentist.
