Your TV inputs are analog, they can't decode the signal sent over the digital cable lines. You have to have some sort of converter to translate the digital signal to analog.

If you have both digital & analog signals coming over the lines, then a cable-ready TV should be able to tune in the analog channels without a box. These are usually only basic cable channels. These days, almost all premium cable channels need a descrambler, even if analog. If you have digital cable, the premium channels will be digital.

Plug it from the wall right into the TV I think you mean? If you getting nothing, then you have a signal problem. Contact your local cable provider.

Maybe they shut down the cable for an emergency or something. Ask the people that pay the cable bill to call the cable company.

If your talking about unplugging the cable cord(blk or wht color) from the box directly to the tv set, Yes you can still get cable channels by using your tv's original remote to change the channel. To get every channel for the level of service you paid for, Call the cable company to get tech to fix your box/tv connection.

Yes, that's how it usually works at my house. Is the cable out completely (I'm not trying to be rude). Maybe you have to go to the menu on your remote or TV and reset the channels. Good luck. I can only imagine how frustrated you are and you were probably counting on watching a special movie.
