The vets are closed so I am posing this question on here. My dog keeps vomiting after she eats and seems lethargic. She doesnt have loose stools, but even if she eats a blade of grass not even 5 minutes go by and she vomits it up. Any suggestions on what could be wrong?

Its not table scraps or garbage. We dont feed her scraps and the kitchen is blocked off. I walk her so I see what she does, she stays inside. She is also spayed.

Since the dog is spayed, I assume she has had all her shots.
A dog that is lethargic is not good, there has to be a vet somewhere with an emergency number even if you have to drive to a differant town. It sounds like pancreitis and that can be deadly. It could be a number of things but when the dog is lethargic it usually is serious. Keep calling differant vets even in other nearby towns until you can find an emergency vet. Most vets have one.
good luck with your dog.

IT IS COMPLETELY NORMAL FOR A DOG TO EAT GRASS AND THROW UP WITHIN MINUTES AFTERWARDS, IT HELPS THEM SETTLE THEIR STOMACH. GRASS ALWAYS MAKES ANIMALS THROW UP THAT IS ALOT OF THE REASON THEY EAT IT. GRASS WILL NOT HARM THEM, THEY IN FACT NEED THE GRASS FOR THIS REASON.

has she eaten any thing that she shouldn't have? got into the garbage or has anyone feed her table scraps? don't feed her any thing for now and get her to the vet asap. could be just an upset tummy or something more serious.the only way to know for sure is to have her checked out. it sounds like pancreatitis to me and the treatment is to not feed for 3 to4 days while giving supportive care ie: iv fluids in the hospital. a blood test will be done to check blood chemistry's. your are looking at a high bill if this is what is wrong with her. I don't want to scare you but some dogs don't make it threw treatment as the owner waited to long to bring them in. please find an emergence hospital asap.

Check around the house looking for something she may have gotten into without you knowing. Something got into her that isn't doing good. She may also just be ill. But do check the house so you have more info for the vet when you get there. A friend of mine dog got really sick from getting into a bag of dirt that had food in it. She found a hole on the bottom that the dog chewed and was able to eat some.

dogs who do this may have eaten a bone or some object that is causing an obstruction. do not wait for your vet to open, find an emergency room vet and take him/her there right away. If that was your child would you wait? I know of a dog who swalloed a small rubber ball, the dog acted as you desribed the ball had to be removed, if that would not have been done it would have died, the ball was to big to continue down the intestinal track. the dog eats grass to help it throw up, if the object is sharp(like a bone) or to far down the track then it is in severe trouble.

From personal experience (with my dog) and told by vets, dogs eat grass to settle their stomach. it is perfectly normal if the dog vomits after eating grass. It is they're intention to eat it in the first place. Don't be too alarmed if she vomits yellow or green - That's the bile from their stomach, most of the time that's what they've been trying to get out. Hope this helps. And hope she feels better soon.

If the dog is female she may have a uterus infection. My dog did the same thing that you are describing. I took mine to the vet and they thought that she had a problem from eating too much table scraps, but it turned out a lot of female dogs get serious uterus infections that can kill them if not treated. You should get the dog to the vet as soon as possible. If this infection is left untreated even for a short time it can be fatal to your dog.

My dog does the same thing when he isn't feeling well. I don't know what is causing it. The vet has us try different foods, but he still gets sick quite frequently, usually once a week or so. He's twelve and his check ups are always ok. He's been on a prescription diet for most of his life. How old is your doggie?

Don't let it eat grass! Whenever my dog eats grass, even 1 blade, she throws up within 5 minutes. Your dog might have a weak stomach like mine. She is very picky with what she eats and she doesn't eat that much. Try giving dry food.

I have no idea. You should look for an after hours vet office. Or even a pet er. They are around. Look them up and ask immediately. Don't wait til morning, it could be too late.
