Somebody once said the same Greek word for WALK could mean either walk or w*ank...I don't know if this is true but it would give a whole new and different interpretation if Jesus was doing that BY the water!

I was not there so I do not know. I personally do not understand how a man...100%human even if also 100%devine... could walk on water. Your question is very interesting...it most certainly could be that the Greek word has more than one meaning...as do most English words. I am most certainly going to check that out. Thank you, for possibly giving new insight to something I have thought for a long time.
And for those of you who will no doubt disagree with me...that's OK. I could be wrong, couldn't I ?

The same greek word is used for when Peter walked ON the water to Jesus from a BOAT! When he took his eyes off Jesus, he began to sink into the water. He was certainly ON the water and not BY it. As was Jesus. :)

If it was by water, then why did Peter call out to Jesus "If it's really you, tell me to come to you?". And then when Peter saw the waves (taking his eyes off Christ), he sank. To suggest that Peter walked on water and not Jesus wouldn't make a lot of sense. Also, why would the disciples assume it was a ghost, if they saw someone walking on the beach? John says the boat was about 3 or 4 miles from shore, and "Jesus was drawing near the boat" on the sea. The Bible is clear in it's claim that Jesus walked on the water. The next question is, "Is the Bible trustworty?"

What would be the big deal in walking by the water? Even I can do that without trying. No it's walking ((on)) the water, as in above it, you know, like a hovercraft does. Maybe Jesus invented water skiing and people didn't get it?

Well, if he walked by the water he found a heck of a long sandbar because the boat was in the middle of the lake. And when Peter stepped out of the boat to join him, he almost drowned in that same sandbar.

He did both, he walked by the sea of Galilee, and then later he walked on it to get to the boat where the disciples were in the midst of the storm.
