Hi,

I am a yoga instructor and I can say that you are not alone in having sweaty hands and feet! Everyone suffers from this problem.

I would recommend that you buy a 'non slip mat' to minimize your feet sliding during standing poses, and to minimize your hands sliding when, say, doing down dog (adho mukha svanasana). However, ultimately, you are going to sweat, and when you sweat you will slip - and which ever mat you buy, you will experience some slipping.

That said, get a mat that is about 5 cm thick. Make sure that it is a good quality yoga mat and not an exercise mat - which tend to be thinner and slippier. Some yoga mats are specifically marked up on the mat as being a yoga mat. Look for some sort of yoga emblem/logo. Avoid using a yoga rug or mats made out of natural fibers since with sweaty hands and feet they can become smelly.

There is a good website that you should check out http://www.matyoga.co.uk It's an information only resource devoted to yoga mats. You'll find good articles there on this topic and mat care.

Finally, a tip to avoid your hands slipping when doing down dog is to have your heals into the wall, and when stretching your hands down, rather than putting your hands on the mat grip either side of the mat when bringing your head to the floor or towards your knees.

Good luck with the yoga

Benny

Weight Loss By Yoga

Yoga has been around for thousands of years and it isn't until recently it conquered the western society. In yoga you will learn how to improve your muscular endurance, your flexibility, your balance and your coordination.

* Stand with the feet together and inhale the palms together in front of the heart in namaste position.

* Exhale and bend the knees, squatting down. Reach the hips down back as if you were going to sit on the edge of a chair, bringing your weight to the heels of the feet. Do not bring the hips lower than the level of the knees.

* Keeping the palms together, bring the left elbow to the right knee and look over the right shoulder at the back corner of the ceiling. Use the arms to roll the left shoulder up and back to feel a deep twist in the upper back.

* Breathe and hold for 3-6 breaths. To release: inhale and press down into the feet straightening the legs and inhale the arms up toward the ceiling.

Hmm...i'm thinking the terrific component to do could be to speak on your checklist. i won't be able to think of of any specifically designed mats that would instruct you a thank you to, yet there are drugs for people who sweat lots. i'm hoping you stumble on your answer!
