Why are some girls referred to as hot, while others are referred to as pretty or beautitful etc? Is there really a difference between these two terms?

Hot -- She may give out a sexy vibe.
Pretty -- She may not be gorgeous, but she looks sweet and attractive.
Beautiful -- She is appealing to the eye. She's the one that causes every man to turn around and sigh!!

This is an excellent question. I'm assuming you are a girl by the text of the question. Hot is an attitude. Hot is a look not to be mistaken with looks. A girl can be beautiful yet lack heat. Hot is a way a girl carries herself and portrays herself. Hot is sexuality made public. I suppose to some men there is no difference between the two terms. But I think to most there definitely is. For example I have actually known some girls who were not as pretty or beautiful as other girls but were actually more attractive because they had more sex appeal. All in all the last statement best describes it. At least for me. Hot= Sex Appeal. AMEN.

Hot has nothing to do with beauty! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...so it's not necessarily what society defines! You could have an amazing personality, or a real charm about yourself, but may be a dumpling! Hot is the physical aspect, where the guy's brain is shut off and the girl may not have a good personality!

Im not a guy but i know the answer. Hot is usually referred to body. Beauty is referred to face. Like a guy can be really hot but have an ugly face or have an ok body and have a really cute face.

For me, a "hot" girl has a good-looking body, and not much, if anything, else going for her; I'd maybe sleep with her once (if I feel like it), and that's about it.
A "pretty" or "beautiful" girl are one and the same in my thinking. Such girls actually have a personality as well as good looks; their mind is as good as their bodies. She's the kind I'd date, marry, etc. This type of girl I personally find more attractive.

lets break it down.
A hot girl is a girl who meets all the physical attributes that make up each guys "dream girl". Some guys like long hair, nice lips, nice boobs, and nice butt. So if he sees a girl that meets all of that criteria she is termed a hot girl. Because just looking at the girl makes us want her because she meets ALL of our "like to have's in a girl". Mostly "hot girl" would be used for a girl who makes us want to well you know...lets just say makes us want them physically.
Now a pretty girl or beautiful girl can be a girl who has great features, but maybe not all of what we're "dreaming" of physically. I mean everyday I see lots of pretty girls, but its rare that i see a girl who has all the features that i love in a girl. Now does that mean a guy won't date a pretty or beautiful girl....yeah right. And a "pretty girl" to me might be a "hot girl" to someone else.
And just because a girl has all the physical characteristics we like doesn't mean we'll date her regardless of her personality. A hot girl will get our attention but that doesn't mean she'll keep it.
So for the ladies, just be yourself, because you are somebody's hot girl!!!

Pretty and beautiful seem more respectful, words you'd use to describe your sister or female relative. Hot would probably be used to add the extra element of sex to it.
I've had some guys give me this line before "Some girls are pretty but not sexy, some girls are sexy but not pretty...you are both"
Never really understood that.

Hmmm, this question made me think a little.
The term "hot" usually refers to someone with a great body. And the terms "beautiful" or "pretty" usually refer to the face.

I think the term 'hot' girl means being sexy, like what you can see only, for example physical attractiveness, and 'pretty' means that the person is attractive in a pleasing way. Like they have nice features on them, such as eyes, lips, hair. But 'beautiful'....I think means everything on a whole, being sexy, respecting yourself, and being a humble about things. THE WHOLE SHABANG! =)p

okay, i'll tell you,
hot girl - it's the best of all, combination of pretty face, sexy beautiful body with perfect seducing boobs and booty. this kind of girl that makes guys want to look at her over and over again.
pretty girl - have a nice joy face and fine body.
beautiful girl - like the previous answerer said, appealing to your eyes..have beautiful face and body also.
*guys always wants a second look or glance for 'pretty' or 'beautiful' girl, no matter what
