I live here.....every morning I wake up, its like being on vacation..yes I work, but when I get off, I grab my board and surf. It is probably one of the most unstressed places I have ever been....its not perfect, but no where is...but if I have to live in un perfect...I'll make it here.
Yes there is lazy people....but they are everywhere...people move a little less fast paced, but that's why they live longer here.
Aloha

Honeymooned on Oahu in 1975 and won a trip to Hawaii in 1977. Oahu has the beaches but Hawaii (The Big Island) has the best sights. Go to the big island and stay in the city of Hilo. There are hotels close to the airport. Do a bike tour of the city, going to the fish market and the gardens. Rent a car and travel counter clockwise around the island. You'll see a great variety of terrains, from jungle to deserts to mountains to seashore. Take your time and see everything. Saddle road which cuts across the center of the island is narrow but drivable. Watch for the Parker Ranch on the left side of this road. On another day go to Kilauea Volcano stopping for lunch at the Volcano House. When we were there it was right after an eruption and things were exciting. Maui was also interesting for its flowers, telescopes, and volcanic trails. Have fun and enjoy your trip.

I have been to Hawaii on vacation, and I have lived there temporarily. Living there is much different than being there on vacation. The vacation I had there was nice. Since I am not a real patient person, the slowness of the people there drove me nuts when I had to live there a few months. People there are lazy, and make a lot of excuses for not doing their work.

Yes. It was 15 years ago though. I would recommend visiting it at least once in your life and take time to go to all the places.

I wish I had been to the big island of Hawaii

I was stationed there while in the army. Listen to me, and I mean this sincerely: do no stay there any longer than two weeks. Period. It would be wonderful to visit, but I was there for three years and trust me, it sucks after a while.
