First of all....I was in a long distance relationship for 6 years. I ended up marrying the guy and we're still together after 11 years of marriage.
The biggest thing is TRUST. And don't EVER give each other a reason not to TRUST. You must believe in each other. I wouldn't do ANYTHING, I repeat ANYTHING to make my BF even think I was up to no good. If you have a group of rowdy friends that you normally hang out with...stop and think...is he going to trust me with them. If not, do something else like take your sister shopping or go to a family event. If he starts feeling uneasy it might be easier for him to ditch the relationship.
The second thing is you have to call each other and TALK on a regular basis. You need good communication. Let each other know what's going on with your days, weeks, etc. Talk about how you can't wait to see him again and make him feel special.
Third...both of you must feel LOVED enough not to want to go out with anyone else. Do little things, send cards (Real cards...not e-cards) Something with an actual photo and your handwriting. It may sound corny but there is something special about it. Send him a care package with homemade cookies, etc.
And lastly...You must SEE EACH OTHER on a regular basis also. Whether it be weekends or every other weekend....make a plan to see each other.
This worked for us...hope it works for you.

Me and my bf live 10 hrs apart. We only see each other like every other month. We talk on the phone everyday and online though. We talk as if we were together which helps alot. Communication is a big key. And keep the humor too. It helps!

Trust and that love it self.
But..please do not put your heart 100% to believe since the long distance relation sometimes is not works even they have strong love...to avoid you hurt very deeply when you find it as good/smooth as you wish.
The long distance make an empty space that might be fullfil by somebaody else and change their love or acts...it will influence the relationship it self.

Email, Text and Long Distance call, e-cards and once in every three months he visit me here and we never miss any moment together. True love will always find a way to communicate, there might be some reason for not writing but your committment will surely pave way. Send him your undy with your perfume and use his perfume when you sleep. Send him really sexy pictures of yours. This will work trust me!

Try to not move but if it's unchangeable than alright, another speed bump you two can handle it. Just keep your feelings alive and always let him know you love him without being in your face about it. Also always make sure you both trust eachother, a long distance relationship cannot survive without trust.

I think you both can install webcams, so, you both can see each other and talk in the real time to keep the long distance relationship.
But of course go to see each other when you both have time.
Good luck for you two.
