Eating the poop is very common - and disgusting. Eating the litter is more dangerous - clumping litter can cause a serious bowel obstruction. You'll never train the dog out of this - prevent the dog from getting to the litter box. If the dog is bigger than the cats, make a barrier with a small hole cut in it. If the dog is smaller or the same size, then make a platform that the cats can reach, but that the dog can't get to.

Totally normal. Most dogs, given the chance will eat litter. The best thing to do is move the litter box to an area where the dog can't get to it. Put it in the garage and then put a cat door in the door that leads to the garage. Or under the stairs. That's what we did with ours. Our dog got to the litter box one night when we weren't home and ended up eating so much clumping cat litter that it clumped in his stomach.. not fun for all parties involved. So we put the litter box in the closet under the stairs and then just cut a hole in the door that the cats could get through and the dog cant. The door can always be replaced later.

It is quite normal for a dog to eat feces...they even eat their own. I suggest you removing the soiled cat litter as soon as the cat soils it of you don't want your dogs getting into it.

ew that's not normal! Try sprinkling something horribly untasty on it like sour lemon, something that won't hurt them or the cats if ingested but that would make them not want to eat it. You could also get a "covered" litter box.

They're probably eating the turds out of the litter. Your dogs are bored. Give them something else to do.

my dogs eat it, too. we have a covered catbox that for a long while we had to keep on the counter in our mud room, now its back on the floor, as they show no interest in it lately. (they're maturing!) put the litter box up where kitty can get it, and puppies can't.

perhaps you could put a hood on the cat litter box?
cat litter could be very bad if they eat alot of (poop) litter as the litter absorbs liquid and fluids so if they swallow it - it may absorb the liquids in the stomach/intestines? you may ask about that.....good luck!

yes its normal. put the litter box in a room they can't get to. if you can't do that get a lid for the cat box. and a spray battle. that way ever time they get in to the box and you catch them doing it spray them. this will tech them to stop.

my dogs do it as well, get a litter box with a cover, or just leave it because it doesn't harm them

MY DOG DOES THE SAME THING. I just put something there so she can't get in it. The cat can still get there though
