My two aunt are having a disagreement. Please help me to decide who is right! My one aunt (Gail) says that you should never ever feed a cat table scraps. My other aunt (Christy) says that while yes it is best for them to eat mainly cats foods, they like human need a variety of foods too. (such as milk, tuna, and veggies) Not every day maybe, but once in a while yes. So my question is, who do you think is right? My first aunt (Gail), or my second aunt (Christy).

My grandmother says just to feed them mouse guts. You know the ones you can buy at the pet store. Is she right?

Christy is correct
They may not be getting all the nutrients from their cat food so they may sometimes need human food

Ok, first of all, cats love milk. But just because they love milk, doesn't mean you should give it to them. It can be very hard on their digestive system.
It's bad practice to switch cat food on your cat because it disrupts their digestive system. People need variety, cats don't. If you make sure that you're feeding them a cat food where meat or vegetables are listed first on the list of ingredients, then rest assured that kitty is getting the nutrition he/she needs. Feeding a cat table scraps will also disrupt his/her digestive system. Go with Aunt Gail. She knows what she's talking about.

Your aunt Christy is right, but Aunt Gail is right in some circumstances. Here are some guidelines.
*Young kittens should not eat table scraps other than meat because their stomachs cannot handle it and they will most likely get diarrhea. Cats that are overweight should also not get table scraps, or at least not often.
*Do not give cats small bones (e.g.: chicken) than can break easily or get caught when they try to eat them. Only give bones that they cannot break our ingest.
*Many cats are 'allergic' to cow milk.
*Do not give cats chocolate. Avoid sugary or salty foods.
*Table scraps that are good for most cats include meat and meat products, fish (no bones!), bread, small amounts of cheese, eggs, and asparagus (or any veggies, but cats usually like apsparagus).
Good luck!

Christy is correct, depending on what you consider "table scraps." Fried foods, desserts, starches...nope. My two cats get a varied diet. Canned cat food. dry cat food, tuna fish, milk (contrary to what everybody says), red meat, pork, chicken, turkey, and their favorite is jack mackerel in a can (steamed mackerel complete with bones...the bones are soft and very edible). And sometimes they eat mice. Think about it...would you like to eat the same old thing, day after day after day? Have you ever seen a finicky cat? I think maybe some cat owners are lazy and figure that opening a can of food is all the cat needs, so why bother with anything else?

Yikes.
Well I don't know much about Cats but I do know that they are 100% carnivores and do not eat veggies!
As a rule, pets shouldn't be feed table scraps. It doesn't end well for either the pet or the people it will keep begging from.

If one can afford, your 2nd aunt Christy is right. If not, better to feed cat foods or table scraps..in that case your 1st aunt is right.

Ok, I'm going to say neither of them are right. While its not good for cats to eat a lot of people food, it is nice to give them some as a treat, though they may get in the habit and start bugging you when you eat. However, cats do not NEED a variety. Cat food has all the nurtients a cat needs. We need to eat a variety because just one item of food does not have everything we need to stay healthy.

Cats can eat table scraps--they may even get more nutrition from them, than manufactured cat food. I'd say your Aunt Christy is correct.

I am not a cat expert but with dogs once you give them scraps for awhile they hardly want to touch their dog food. I would imagine cats would do the same. If you decide to feed your cat scraps I would do it very sparingly. Also you should try searching the web for that question. Hope this helps
