It's perfectly fine--just keep in mind if they get too much salt in their system, it will dehydrate them. Probably 1/4 a cup a day for a small dog like yours is fine, just make sure he drinks lots of water too! See if he'll eat ice as a treat...both of mine LOVE it!

RE:
Can dogs eat peanuts?
My dog has gotten to a bowl of COOKED peanuts.... It seems he really loves peanuts. Is it ok for a 3 month old pomchi to eat cooked peanuts as a treat?

Some dogs do fine with peanuts and some don't. With some dogs, they pass right through and in other dogs they may cause diarrhea. My concern about a 3 month old pomchi is that they could possibly choke on a peanut AND you're getting them use to junk food which may make it harder for you in the future to feed him dog food which has the proper nutrients that he needs for proper growth and health. As a Chihuahua owner, I hear from people all the time about how picky their dogs are about what they eat and, usually, that's due to the owners and their poor choices in what to feed their pup. Habits develop early with pups.

Peanuts and peanut butter are a common treat for dogs, so yes (if you ever need to give your dog pills of any sort, bury them in peanut butter!). But you should not give him the dry-roasted or salted kind, just the plain. They are rather fattening, so if he has weight issues you might want to avoid them.
You can buy lots of different kinds of dog treats in peanut butter flavor, too.

My old neighbor had a dog that loved honey roasted peanuts as a treat. I don't think they'd be harmful or else why do they make peanut butter dog treats? I wouldn't give to many though.

No they can't digest regular peanuts. But peanut butter is OK because it's already processed (mashed).

My dog eats peanuts all the time, she's a yr old min-pin. She shells them and everything all by herself. She prefers the shelled ones w/o salt
