Sorry, not illegal. As far as the measuring, maybe you don't have a lot of crime and he's bored to tears. If that's the case, be thankful you live in a quiet town.

Since there is a nationwide crackdown on using your seatbelt, it's perfectly legal.
I can't believe someone on here thinks it's okay to go around risking their own life, so "who cares"? Well, I hope you aren't driving around in my neighborhood! Sure, you don't care if you splatter your brains all over the inside of your car, but someone has to clean that up. Then someone has to identify your body, usually a family member. That's a nice memory to leave behind isn't it? So go ahead, ignore the seatbelt law, you're right, no one should hinder your right to be stupid. I just hope you don't take anyone I care about with you (or anyone else for that matter). Grow up and follow the law, it's there for a reason.
Sorry lostinlove but you are wrong. Any vehicle on the road that you are inside of requires the use of a seatbelt if you are the driver (at least).

If you absolutely don't want to wear a seat belt invest in a pickup truck. You don't have to wear seat belts in a pickup at least not yet. A cop can pull you over for having the license plate light out, a head light out, loud mufflers, and yes no seat belt on. It's the judge that sentences you to community service usually on a seat belt violation it's just a fine.

Yes. It's legal in Indiana to stop someone not wearing a seat belt. You may get a ticket and, yes, be required to do community service. It's the law.

Its never illegal for a cop to pull you over for doing something that is illegal. Yes, there is a law in every state that you must wear a seatbelt. I dont see why, and I really dont agree with it either. If someone wants to drive around risking thier own life, what the heck should I or anyone else care. It is stupid, but no it isnt illegal for him to do that.

The places they recommend for community service will probably be owned by ther pension plan!
I know it sucks ...But try not to break the obvious laws.
They setup safety belt zones in Michigan and have twenty cops waiting to pull you over with spotters actually standing on the corner.

In Georgia, not wearing a sea belt is not an offense you can be pulled over for. You CAn be charged with it, but only after you are pulled for something else.
A police officer can't tell you that you will have to do comm. serv. anyway. That is to be decided by the judge.

The police officer can not "sentence" you, he could stop you and issue you a ticket, and you would go before a city judge
( which is often a joke in small town ameria also.
The judge can sentence you to community service.
some police "unofficially" offer some community service for minor things for not writing a ticket in small towns but it is not legal. yes they can measure your tires, some city "meter" people have gauages made they measure distance with.
