We have introduced the two cats decently and they seem to be getting along. It appears as though the older cat is being "motherly" while licking the kitten, but then will just bite the neck. After doing this, he starts to lick again.

Your older cat is showing the younger cat that he is willing to protect him but will also "put him in order." My cat used to beat up my dogs to show that he is the original cat and no dog is coming in to change that. Until my other dog died, they protected my cat all the time. Don't worry too much about it, it's a cat thing. I don't know.

It is normal the older one is showing he is the dominant one! Just getting control of the younger one while he is still little and not to much of a challenge to control. My older one will walk across the room to slap the young one just for being in the same room. If the young one falls asleep in the lounge chair the older one will jump up and sit on his head and wash his paws. Until the young one moves. the older one goes on his way! It is just a "game" of nature with them. Respect and live >

Just showing dominance over the younger one. Trying to be motherly but just letting the little one know that she is the boss

LOL, cats are so funny!! Its affection, hes accepting him. Be happy he's doing this. Soon enough kitten will do it back. I have two brother cats that constantly do this, its so funny to watch, doesn't look like it makes much sense to us, but it does to them. :)

The cat is being playful. My cats bite eachother all the time, then sit down and groom eachother. It makes no sense.

He is probably just playing around with the kitten.. Maybe just trying to make it feel at home

Stop him from doing this! He is trying to establish dominance. He could really hurt the kitten.

They all do that. It's the parental instinct kicking in. He's grooming him. As long as he doesn't hurt the kitten, all is well.
