You'll get a lot of answers and hopefully you'll be able to distinguish the sarcastic from the misinformed from the sincere. Yes, we consider ourselves Christians. That is, followers of the teachings of the Jesus Christ told of in the Bible accepted by other Christian churches. As many Christian Churches have different interpretations of the doctrine in the Bible, they sometimes go by different names. We are only 'separate' in the same way; some of our interpretations are different from theirs.
As for getting to heaven, I believe God is fair. If you do the best you can in your life, he'll reward you justly. Heaven isn't for "Mormons first, others can come if there's room." Nope. I still need to obey the Bible's commandments as much as the next guy, Mormon or not, or I won't make it.
But one way in which we're different is we believe God has given extra information to the world recently and some churches don't want to accept it because it's not in the Bible. I'm thinking; if God has a message and I don't listen, who's fault is it if I fail in this life?

I am LDS, and I consider our religion to be Christian, as does our leader, Gordon B Hinkley.

Gordon B. Hinckley, President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said:
"We are Christians in a very real sense and that is coming to be more and more widely recognized. Once upon a time people everywhere said we are not Christians. They have come to recognize that we are, and that we have a very vital and dynamic religion based on the teachings of Jesus Christ."

"We, of course, accept Jesus Christ as our Leader, our King, our Savior...the dominant figure in the history of the world, the only perfect Man who ever walked the earth, the living Son of the living God. He is our Savior and our Redeemer through whose atoning sacrifice has come the opportunity of eternal life."

"Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints pray and worship in the name of Jesus Christ. He is the center of our faith and the head of our Church. The Book of Mormon is Another Testament of Jesus Christ and witnesses of His divinity, His life, and His Atonement."

As a faithful member of the Church of JESUS CHRIST of latter day saints, i do consider myself a christian. I will never till my dieing day understand why someone would think a church which calls itself after Christ's name is not christian.

i am mormon and i can tell you for a fact that mormonism is just another branch of christianity just like the presbeterians, lutherans, born-again christians, and anyone else who believes in christ.
we believe in god the eternal father and in his son jesus christ and in the holy ghost.
we believe in the same organization that existed in the primitive church namely apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists and so forth.

sorry i am not mormon but i can intelligently say that if you are mormon, you can cannot be Christian. if you were Christian you would understand this to be true. Jesus was sufficient from the Christian perspective thus gospel+ cannot exist.
