Arent they all related after all? I see it sometimes on this immigration forum. Isnt it like calling the pot calling the kettle black?

At the Cahokia Mounds in Illinois, they state that the Missippian indians are related to the Mayans, if not the Mayans themselves. The Apaches are both north and south of the US/Mexico borders, and It is believed that all indigenous tribes originated in Asia.

I am not prejudiced against my "own kind". I do not like racists. I have never said anything about hating white people! And my husband is not illegal.

Some of the posts on here have little to do with the illegal immigration "issue", and everything to do with racism. I am just asking, is it hypocritical for the peoples that are originally from the same race, to hate one another due to their race/national origin.

Honestly renegade, I was hoping you would stop by. I can see that you have reason in history, to distrust the government of the United States. I am not sure what you mean exactly about Native children's education, I was under the impression that each tribe had their own government and schooling. Regarding what you say about Mexicans not be oppressed by the US govt, I can see that it may not be the same case, but aren't you aiming your hatred and resentment at the wrong people? Indigenous tribes in Mexico are treated badly by their government as well, have you heard of the zapatistas? they are a group of indigenous vigelantes (from Chiapas Mexico) fighting the government for basic rights. My point is, you are not so different. I would love if you would acknowledge that. But one can only hope.

Wow-this is a lot of infomation.

I think racism sucks, especially between people of color, but you have to keep in mind that there is a long term history of fighting and conflict between SOME Native Nations and the Mexicans long long long before the first White Man came here.

For example, my cousins are Apache and were raised with stories of Mexicans kidnapping Apache children and vice versa thru time immemorial. And currently, with the whole debate about illegal immigrants, this stirs up old conflicts and wounds with folks on both sides.

Fact is, Mexicans were indigenous to NA at some time, but its now 2006, they have been settled in Mexico for hundreds of years and besides, like it or lump it, we all have borders now. We can't just pick up and travel at will like we used to. Yeah, it sucks, majorly, but its the way it is.

Ultimatley, only individuals can decide for themsleves how they feel on this. If they feel negative towards others, then tolerance must be learned so as to avoid conflict. Tolerance is putting up with, not approval of, an idea or way of life. Bottom line, we're all brown and should be able to tolerate each other so as to avoid conflict.

Well mendi8a, I guess since I seem to be the one of the few outspoken Natives around here, I will take this opportunity you have so glibly provided to express a few of my "hypocritical ,racist" opinions and views.
just remember, You asked. O.K.?
You have no idea how racist I happen to be, this is due to the fact that I am living proof that The American government cant be trusted if left to its own devices. Over 500 years of governmental campaigns & programs aimed at the genocidal elimination of whole individual tribes of "Natives". The governmental funded wholesale slaughter of the indigenous peoples of the North American continent. "Indians." Biological warfare conducted by government troops against the original peoples of the country known today as America. The boarding school system, which raped the culture and traditional values of 100's of thousands of indian children, in order to attempt to forcibly assimilate by "education". I have experienced this type of "education". The reservation program, which we continue to survive! countless atrocities committed by government agents, federal troops, and "Americans".
This has been done all across this land which was once paradise, the center of the universe for its people. Do you begin to see why I hate so?
Now, how many Mexicans do you know of that can claim this kind of cultural history? When has the American government ever treated Mexicans in this manner for generations?!! Tell me if you are able. Native Americans are some of the most patriotic people in America, even after all we have been through, we have the highest enlistment numbers of any ethnic group currently within the United States. Tell me of hypocrisy lady. Lately the pro immigrant group around here has made claims that Mexicans are Native Americans who speak Spanish, if Mexicans were EVER treated as shabbily as we have been by their government ,they would have been long gone from Mexico! Hyporitical racist, is that what you call me now? True American! Thats me! Related my butt! Prove it!

There were some "Mexicans" who were already here, when we "WON" that war, that were given the opportunity to move to Mexico or stay in that part of the USA. Many chose to stay. Subsequently, they intermarried with the indiginous tribes of those areas. Not all of our Native Americans married those former Mexicans. Most married in their own tribes. Some married caucasian. Some married blacks. So, NO, they have no reason to be pro-illegal immigrant. They are all AMERICANS of the USA. They are not being hypocritical, they have no bones to pick with those people because of their color/race. They are part of the 90% of Americans that see the abuses those people do to this country and are ready to stand up for America and say "ENOUGH ALREADY"!! The illegal immigrant is not wanted here by Americans of all colors, races, ethnicities and origins. As we have stated millions of times, this has absolutely nothing to do with 'race'. It is the Latino community who keeps making race an issue. Because the ones flooding our borders at Mexico are mainly coming FROM Latino countries does not mean 'race' is the issue. The issue is ILLEGAL entry into the USA. They just happen to BE mainly Latino. If Mexico were Ireland and millions were crossing the border, it would be the same thing and they might try to say "it's because we're redheads /or blond/or blue eyed/or green-eyed/or light skin." Even though the issue were illegal entry. It has nothing to do with anyone's race, ethnicity or color. We are all tired of that old excuse. It's unfounded.

On a DNA level, at some point, yes, Native Americans and those of Mexican descent are probably related. But that is not the problem, is it? After all, the Protestants and Catholics in Ireland have been fighting for centuries, and they are the EXACT SAME race. The atrocities committed in Rwanda between the Tutsis and the Hutus, all committed by Black Africans.

Small-minded humans will find reasons to look down on one another, and if it's not their genetic heritage, it will be something else. It's not hypocritical, but it is immature, insensitive and unnecessary.

And that is my two cents' worth. Your mileage may vary.

The answer is a strong and resounding NO!!!!! They are not related, especially the plains tribes whose only relationship with Mexico was seasonal raids and to steal women to trade with. I read your reply to my husband's post and I know that you are just unaware of your history. The little Native American children were forced into boarding schools and forced to assimilate. They were forbidden to speak their Native tongue or to practice their spirituality. They cut their hair, and to an Indian, that was shameful. The plains Indians usually only cut their hair in times of great mourning. American Indians have MORE OF A RIGHT to be upset about these illegals coming in than anyone does. They are the true owners of this great land. If you are really interested, you can read about Native American history. It's a sad sad story. One of the more tragic events of Native history was the massacre at Wounded Knee, where almost 300 mainly women and children were slaughtered for their spiritual beliefs. No other race has ever endured so much tragedy as the Native American. They were almost wiped from the face of the earth. Yet, they are still here and they are always the first one to hold high the American flag.
Native Americans are a very proud people. They have honor. Mexicans are nothing like them. Nothing.

The answer to your puzzle is that it isn't racism.

If they are related I would think you would be able to see that. (Although, frankly, I don't know that American Indians would see Mexicans as relatives. The Apache certainly didn't see the Comanche as relatives, and despised the Pawnee, for example.)

Native Americans from the United States have a right to be here. People illegally here, if that is what you mean by Mexicans, do not have a right to be here. Why should Native Americans not resent illegal immigrants? Many Mexican Americans are avidly anti-illegal immigrant, including regarding those from Mexico.

Clearly that can't be racism. Maybe they just don't like people breaking our laws to sponge off of our services.

I know that is how I feel.

Does it really mean that much to you to be able to write the whole issue off as racism?

Its hypocritical for any race to be racist, after America has been open to people based on the inscription ("Give me your tired....") at Ellis Island. But now that YOUR family has made it, YOUR family is saying no way you cant come in now. Even though your family somewhere along the line has gone through hardships somewhere down the line and that's why they immigrated to America. Well these people are going through the same things where they are from and want a better opportunity for them and their families.
(i am not saying YOUR to anyone particularly, but as a general statement)

What people have to understand is that Native American Communities are the same as non-native communities (with the same socio-economic status)...they have the same problems, same positives but are in a rural setting.
In native communities you will find people that are racist and some that are not, and the same in non-native communities as well.
In native communities you will find unemployment and the same in non-native communities.
In native communities you will see large family gatherings and the same in non-native communities.

Basically what I am saying is that communities are communities no matter where you go, racism and stereotyping is everywhere unfortunately but we all have a say in doing something about it.

The issue that Native Americans have against Mexicans and all other illegals isn't about RACE. Our Government and a lot of American Citizens are the one's displaying hypocrisy, you included mendi8. My Native American ancestors fought hard, sacrificed much and eventually were forced to respect their captors and the country they established. They were a people slaughtered without regard. Over the years my Native people have become great supporters and respectors of the American way. The hypocrisy is in a government that made us fight, stole from us, killed our women and children to take what they wanted, and put us all away on useless scraps of land called reservations, and now........they want to GIVE it away freely, they want to give away what the Natives fought and died for, they want to give it away to people who never fought a day or scarificed a damn thing to call this land their own. And not only are they suggesting we give it to them freely, they're also supporting their culture, language, flag and holidays. Tell me.......is there a single holiday on the American calendar that supports the Native Americans.......is any Native American language printed on the cereal boxes? Did the Americans who took the Natives by storm learn or teach the Native language? NO, they were forced into American schools and beat for speaking their own language until it became nearly extinct, they were forced to stop their religious practices and worship a foreign god. Now you tell me where the hypocrisy is. Oh the Native Americans can practice their spiritual ceremonys and speak their own language as long as they do it on the Reservation. Mexicans can walk down any American street and wave their f**** flag! Who's the hypocrite now *****?

There is a long history here between the Pueblos and the Spaniards who enslaved them for several hundred years. I've never really noticed any particular hatred against the Mexican people, but I've been gone for New Mexico for a few years now, so maybe things have changed.

You are right, there is a lot of inter-relations, but saying they are "all related" isn't particularly accurate.

No. I don't see it like that. It is stupid to bring race into the picture, when the general idea is just "illegal immigrants". You should not bring the race card in and stop your racism against the Tribes of the USA.
P.S.
I have seen and read your silly posts on the Mexico yahoo site. Talk about hypocrite.
