Hi, i have tried so many things, i mainly need motivation, i have a job now so i can buy my own food i just really need help, thank you so much to anyone willing to help me.

You should join weight watchers, they'll teach you all the skills you need in order to change your lifestyle, so it's something that you can do for the rest of your life. It's $12/week, and they teach you how to live "real life" and still eat "real food." It's a great investment for the rest of your life...plus people who attend meetings are 30% more likely to reach their goal weight.

Hon, when I was 17--a long time ago now--I decided I didn't want to be fat (like the rest of my family) all my life. I went on a life time diet.
It worked. It's not a 'diet,' its a change of lifestyle.

What you need to do is figure out what you are eating that is making you over weight. Things that are sweet, or things that are greasy are usually the culprits. Those and gravies and dressings on salads, etc.

Decide what a good diet consists of like lots of fruits and veggies, about two slices of whole wheat bread each day, and some healthy cereal--like Wheaties, Grape Nuts, Cheerios and Shredded Wheat. Some green things and very little or none of things like cheese, red meat. And NO soda, beer or sweetened drinks. Drink V8 Juice. For snacks, keep a bunch of carrot sticks, celery sticks etc. And don't buy any bad-for-you stuff at the store. That way there won't be any junk to eat when you're tempted at home. Drink lots of water.

OK I know you might say "Yuk." Nevertheless, you have to decide: Do you want to get trim, or do you want to eat stuff that's not good for you? You have to choose.

The other thing, take a walk every day. You don't need to run or work out or do a lot of fancy stuff. A two-four mile walk or a couple hours swimming will tone you up.

You will lose weight slowly, as you should. In fact you will hit a point where you stop losing weight. That's ok. Keep with your program. Muscle weighs more than fat, so even if you're losing fat, if you're gaining muscle, your weight might stay the same, or even go up. Just STAY WITH IT. One day you will look at yourself--probably in about 8 months--and realize you're not overweight any more, and you look REALLY GOOD!!!

That's what I did, and that's how I did it--only I'm a vegetarian. And I'm married and have had four pregnancies. I still weigh 108 lbs. (I'm only 5'2").

Motivation is biggy. There are some support sites on the web. Beachbody.com has a good one for people who do their program but I'm sure there are others out there where you can hook up with an online buddy. On the beachbody site are some nice recipes for healthy eating also.
Perhaps you can enlist a friend who has the same goals to go exercising with. Thing is, the real motivation has to come from you. You have to want it so bad so that you can get up every day and say: okay, I may feel lazy or like crap today, but I'm still going to stick with the program. Taking one day at a time. Every time you make it successfully through one of those crappy days, you'll feel really good about yourself and your accomplishment.
In practical terms, you have to force yourself to swear off the junk and soda for a while until you've reached your goal. Think about it this way: you can always have the pizza if you really want it. It is available, but you're making a conscious choice not to eat it today. I once heard someone say: nothing tastes as good as fit feels.
Ease into an exercise program. You want to get up to 6 days a week, minimum of 30 mins a day. Alternate aerobics and weights. The first month will be the hardest. It's a test of your willpower and determination and it will pay off.

The best diet is the Canadian or American food guide. And exercise. Are you sure you are overweight? Have you based this on your own belief system or a chart? Other things to take into consideration is your body type. I am overweight now but when I was at my fittest I could never get myself down to where the charts said I should be.

Following things like the Atkins diet have caused people to end up binging and gaining all of their weight back, and in extreme cases people have actually died. People have developed eating disorders as a result of becoming obsessed with following these stupid plans. And places like Jenny Craig soak you by getting you to eat their food. Are you going to eat their food for the rest of your life? NO! If you really are overweight go to your doctor or a nutritionist for help.

Okay, I am a man, so it may come across as being different...but i have recently lost 30 lbs and i have maintained it for more than a year so, here goes:

1. Drink lots and lots of water (cannot empasize this enough)
2. People tend to eat salads when they diet, but the one flaw they have is the dressing. Salad dressing is worse than eating Big Macs, I am not kidding. Make sure you eat FAT FREE dressings, and in my experience, it doesn't matter if you load the salad with olives, garbazos, croutons, avacado, etc. It is all good. When hungry for snacks, try the following: pickles (especially when craving salty snacks), honeydew, watermelon, pineapple, and all that good stuff. If you are not accustomed to it, you will be soon. Apples, carrots, broccoli, I know it sounds gross, but I have become used to it and I love it! Now, I am not a vegetarian...I could never give up steak, chicken, fish, and all of that good stuff. But the key is to use that as a special treat. And, the number one rule, I am sad to say....you have to give up the sweets. Maybe once a month as a treat for doing well on the rest of your diet. But believe me it becomes a natural part of who you are and you get to the point where you enjoy it. It becomes like a challenge to you to stay on top of it. I got excited about it and you can too. When all else fails, think of it as something to spite all of the people who have commented about you being "above average" weight wise and rub it in their face. P.S. You can do "ab workouts" until you are blue in the face, but NOTHING does it like cardio exercise. Use the elyptical machines. Once you start dropping the weight, then go to the abs and keep on it at least 2-3 times a week, with a steady mix of 1-2 times cardio per week. Tried and true, believe me.

Are there certain triggers? A lot of times loneliness can be a factor, or other issues, resolve that and just be reasonable don't put a limit that is too dramatically different from what you're doing now, just cut back a bit. Also, exercise is necessary- maybe start out walking, then build up to higher levels, gradually. Maybe it is something you can work on with a friend or family member, depending on what your personality prefers. Also, writing it down can help keep motivation- like a food diary or something (if that is something that appeal to you, everyone is different). Good luck, you can do this!

*4) Get plenty of sleep. Sleep experts say most adults need between seven and nine hours of sleep each night for optimum performance, health, and safety.

*5) Educate yourself continually on health issues and make a life long commitment to good health. A great free publication is “Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005”.
