Dogs bark to signal to the rest of their pack, (meaning any humans or animals in your household), that they believe there is a potential threat to the safety of the pack. This can be barking at sounds outside that they can not see, strangers walking past your home or yard, visitors coming into your home and even cars driving by outside. One of the main problems with constant barkers is the fact that they believe that they are the “pack leaders”, therefore responsible for the safety of the pack. Not understanding this fact can lead to frustration on your part because to you it seems like your dog may be barking at every little thing for no reason. Barking signals the pack to be on alert.

They are communicating. When you tell them to stop barking they often think you are playing/communicating with them. That's why yelling at a dog to stop barking doesn't work. "This is fun! Let's bark and do this more!"

they are scared, they want to play, they are being protective., thye see another dog.. they are like babies, you have to figure out what is going on to make them bark,
