If u dont want to take the direct aproach, suggest spending more time with each other. Or u can talk to a mutual guy friend of the both of urs, and find out this friend of urs's feelings. The direct approach has always worked 4 me, not always in getting the guy, but it makes u feel better, and guys apreciate the honesty, it earns u big brownie points. Flirting is a good way of hinting that you are interested in someone. Don't be afraid to do that. It's still flattering even if he's not as interested.

definitely tell him, all guys like to be told they are liked. it makes then feel better about themselves, and therefore probably have more confidence to ask you out :)
