Most likely one of two things. First suspect is the brakes. They are probably falling apart. Second, it could be a wheel bearing...but that would probably make noise going down the highway. It would be a good idea to check it out. Good luck.

Sounds like your brake hardware needs replaced. Probably the shoes too. It should not cost too much to fix I done it a bunch. LOL Hope I have been helpful

That sounds as if your brake pads might be worn....most automobles have metal clips which rub the rorors just before pads are completly gone

More year, make, and model information, please--and could you please describe the noise?
If it was a high-pitched squeak, it could be your brake pads. If it's a low "clunk-clunk" noise, it might be a worn ball stud. We really can't tell from the information you've given, but we'd love to help.

it could be lack of fluid in a diff remove the check plug and inspect it for metal shavings the stick a finger into the diff itself and check the level it should be a bit below the check plugs hole. Also if its not got a diff it could be a cv joint or busted cv boot.

Was it a clunk? A screech? A thump? A crunch? A drag?
I need more specifics.
