I too have put a lot of thought into this procedure. I plan to have it if I can't lose the weight myself after I am done having children.
A friend of mine from when I was in high school had this surgery done a few years ago. She lost over 100 Lbs, she was very big to start with. Over the last 2 years, I think, she has put pretty much all the weight back on again. But it was because of bad eating habits she couldn't or wouldn't give up. My aunt says that even though she is over 400 Lbs she will never have it done even though it would save her life to lose the weight, she says that the risks are too high for her because of existing breathing problems she may die on the operating table. I myself am almost 300Lbs and have been heavy since starting into puberty. My husband's step-mother had it done nearly 2 years ago now and looking at the pictures from our wedding, a few months before her surgery, and looking at her now, she still has the extra skin but she looks a lot better now. Here if you are over a certain BMI provincial health care will pay for the surgery fully.
Hope that you get all the information you need before making this decision.
May I ask how old you are? You may not be old enough to be considered for this surgery if you are still in your growing years as it can cause more damage than help if you are too young. I do know that you can suffer from malnutrition for a year or more afterwards. I have heard suggestions to wait at least 2 years before becoming pregnant after having the surgery because there is such a risk of nutrition related problems it is too high of a risk to become pregnant before then.

I had the RNY gastric bypass done in Dec. 2005. This morning I was down 118 pounds. I had diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and arthritis. I took 5 different medications and was miserable. Today I take only vitamins, my sleep apnea is gone (no more CPAP) my diabetes is reversed, my blood pressure is normal, my total cholesterol is 106 and I feel GREAT. I had no problems after surgery. In fact, I never used any pain meds the whole time I was in the hospital. I know everyone's story is different, but I wanted to tell a positive side. It has truly changed my life in just six months. You should research this and then talk with your doctor. Good luck!

I know someone that is still in a coma after 6 months after having the surgery. I know others that are doing fine, they have to drink a proteina shake all the time. Here is a way to lose without surgery, it is called Shapeworks, I lost 95 lbs in 8 months using it. Here is a website to check out: www.loseweightnow.com/tfward

Dang, once you've the money for to do it in India, because of commute prices I propose, then why no longer in straight forward words have it finished right here contained in the U.S.? safe practices is prepared right here and in the experience that they shrink to rubble you've criminal recourse. and not in any respect, I repeat not in any respect get something finished in Mexico. We get a lot of folk on the clinical institution I paintings at that had hernia upkeep, beauty surgical procedure, and certain, gastric pass surgical procedure by the border or maybe each of how in Mexico city who've gotten infections which have placed them into sepsis (an infection contained in the blood flow-very serious, existence threatening). and are available to imagine of it, i don't have self assurance the medical doctors or the situations in India both! Do it right here, keep your self many painful days in hospitals in a while! besides the actual incontrovertible reality that one physician right here in yahoo solutions stated going to India, i do not comprehend if i'd notwithstanding.

Gastric Bypass Surgery/gastrectomy/lapband (all types of weight loss surgery) is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges obesity surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.
I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as obesity surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your lobesity surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.
My cousin got her obesity surgery in India throught the forerunners healthcare .SHe is more than very happy with the results. She has lost 65lbs in 5 months. She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company.hope this helps

Don't do it,I know a kid who died because of it. I doubt if any doctor will do this on a teenager anyway.
