I've had locks for 7 years and I've never used beeswax. It looks better and stays cleaner if you just twist it naturally with plain grease. Beeswax tends to attract dust and specs of things that u dont want stuck in your hair, but to answer our question no i dont think it makes your hair week. And please ignore the ignorant people who answer any question about black hair with yuck

RE:
Does using beeswax hurt your dreads, and does beeswax make them weak and easy to break? is gel better to use?

If you are planning to keep your dreads permanently I would not reccommend the use of beeswax or gel----At a hair supply store there is a lock cream that you can buy to use! Gel or beeswax is not healthy for your hair and plus it holds dirt on your hair that will prevent it from growing properly! Dread locks are beautiful if you keep them clean and not allow them to get dry and nasty looking! I have several friends that have been growing there locks for years---they go get them washed and retwisted to the roots every two weeks--I would reccommend you doing the same!

Good luck with your hair!

I started my dreads with out beeswax...

Beeswax is NOT a good idea. It is way too heavy and attracts dust and dirt in addition to not washing out easily. You want something to hold your hair together, but not beeswax. People are misled because it seems to work well at first, but down the line it causes dull, linty dreads.

Try using lock gel and beeswax mixed together then spray the dreads with spritz when finished.
