I'd keep the area clean, and use tattoo goo or bacitacin cream on it! Good luck!

well on the ankle its a very thin layer of skin. So its going to feel swollen and very painful for a week or more. If it begins to get purple or green in spots were its not supposed to. Then contact the place you got your tattoo done. Their needles could have penetrated to far into your skin, but most likely it will be fine. As long as you have feeling in your ankle right now, I'm sure your fine.
Other than that... if you used an ointment cream to prevent itching or too much swelling, you could have had an allergic reaction to that.

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.
So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.
Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.
A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.
Heal your ankle fully & fast?

Hm, it is normal to have some swelling after a tattoo, along with some redness... but if they used dirty needles you may have an infection that you may need antibiotics for. It also could be an allergic reaction to the ink that they used that is causing it to swell up / go numb (most likely). I would try taking a benadryll and visiting a doctor ASAP.

check with your tattooist...you should be using an antibacterial cream on it most tattoo shops sell one brand or another or get one that is used on babies for nappy rash ( these ones generally dont cause a reaction) but a certain amount of redness and swelling is normal in fresh tattoos and cause its on your lower leg/ankle it will swell more than say your arm or back.. its generally just your body saying ouch what the hell did you do to me..but if you check with your tattooist and they are decent people they will give you advice on what to do..if possible try and sit with it elevated to help with the swelling..and use a cream on it to help it heal and to stop it from drying out too fast

a tattoo should never react like that. it should always be cleansed with the stuff they gave you at the shop, if they didn't they suck. call them and ask them. whether you caused it or they did, again a tattoo should never react like that, it is infected. keep it out of the sun. call the shop immediately!!!!

it could be trama to the area, or you may have an infection. Use antibotic ointment and keep an eye on it. If it gets worse see a dr..

Sounds infected or an allergic reaction. Heck yeah, there's something wrong! Your body is trying to tell you that you screwed up. Should've asked me before you got the tattoo... oh well.
