dentist didnt mention a permanent crown, what is that, like a silver covering over it? It looks just like a normal tooth, why a cover over it?

First, which tooth is it? Most of the time, you will sore for a few days after a root canal. It shouldn't be anything too bad and should get better and better. I'm interested in knowing what tooth it is because you may need a crown (cap) on this tooth, depending where in the mouth it is. Consult with you dentist about this. Good luck

It is normal for a tooth to be tender to bite on for a few days after a root canal. You should be able to chew on it normally in a couple of days. The filling should stay in place, I wouldn't think that would be a problem. They do recommend putting a crown on a root canal tooth, because the tooth is dead and needs to be protected.

It sounds like it may be a temporary sealant (is this true?). Does it feel like something is sticking out of that tooth preventing you from biting down all the way? If that's the case, you're dentist should want you to come back in in a few weeks to put a permanent sealant on the tooth. At least this is what happened to me. Above all, consult your dentist.

Be careful of the tooth at first, it is still sore. Then don't bite down on very crunchy food on that side until you have a permanent crown.
