that a seemingly healthy religious discussion about different views always draw out people who want to start fights? can't these people find better things to do with their time?

For this question, I feel no apology is really needed. This question should not hurt any one because it persuades us to take a serious re-look at ourselves ! So, on behalf of those who are ready to support sincerely healthy discussions, shall I say, "Thank you" for this question ?
If a discussion is likely to end up only in a fight, then such people should try to do better things with their time, BUT, if healthy discussion is also a priority-at-par, then such discussion helps understanding the very purpose of life, and therefore NOTHING ELSE BETTER THAN THIS TO DO !!!!
Why it starts a fight is because of a hidden fear that their beliefs may lose out to the arguments of the other ! If this fear is removed, then seeking the truth naturally becomes the priority rather than hanging on to blind beliefs ! A true religion can stand on its own, and not the least on the BLIND beliefs of its followers. Followers can help spread of the religion to benefit more people ! But, they have to be able to convince all types of people, not by imposing a similar blind belief.

Choose your religious discussions discriminatingly! Yes, I did choose that work, ok U LIBS!!!!
There are always some or more than some religious pugs. You might not know who they are, give them a try, and once you find out the type who are bad, never invite them back!

I think, a lot of times (not always the case) that religion for many people is a lot less about having internal contentment with religion, than it is simply wanting to be right.
Internal contement, one feels ok with their beleifs as is.
Arguing, I think, is some sort of insecurity manifested in a defensive tactic.

Well, I guess people do get offended (Convicted) when someone confronts them with the truth. They murdered Jesus Christ for telling the truth. Look at John the Baptist when he stood for the right and truth? He had his head cut off. Kinda' like what those Arab's do to Christian's and others who are not "people of the book" (the Koran) and follow Islam.

I can't speak for anyone else, but it irritates me when people tell me I'm going to Hell because I don't believe what they believe in. It's very condescending, and I'm sure many others feel that way too, and it makes people defensive.
Hey, I could care less what others believe in, but they should have the same respect for me, and quit telling me I should believe what they do. I have to fight for what I feel is right for me.

Some people just like to fight, in its there blood. Even if they don't care for they subject, they'll take anything and turn it into an argument. The best way to deal with it is to walk away, that's really the only way to truly win

Most of us out here ( but certainly not all) have too much ego to allow another person a belief, a valid point, or god forbid, a differing view that is functional and correct.
