It is a proven fact that you DO NOT use over the counter stuff on your animals..... My sister used some kind of flea repellent on her kitty, and it went into convulsions!! The chemicals in the over the counter products are way to harsh for the animals nervous system.
You are better off to check with your vet, there is stuff called, "Advantage" or "front line" that is safe for your animals, its a once a month application when needed, cant use it and the kittens yet, though, but you can treat the mom and you'll get them all. Its only about 10 or 15 bucks a month, a well worth it thing, and this is the peak of flea season.please go that route, its safer, not to mention, your pets are flea free!
Once the kittens have been weened from their mom, do the responsible thing and get her spayed, there's all kinds of cost help out there if its needed.

I also had a kitten who was 2 weeks old and covered in fleas. I found a flea shampoo at the petstore that was ok for use on preganant cats and kittens from 0-8weeks of age. I washed her carefully avoiding the ears and eyes, and combed the fleas out of her face and rinsed the comb in the flea soap and water. If you use regular soap, you will not kill the fleas. Pet Co sells "Natural Chemistry De Flea Pet Shampoo" which is safe to use on cats of all ages.

hi i have 3 feral kittens (now 8 mos old) when i got them they were about 5 days old, and covered with fleas they did not even have their little eyes and ears open, i carefully got a warm soapy (iused dial) washrag, and another washrag i put in a bowl of just warm water (for rinsing) and then i had a big bathtowel for drying, be really careful! they are so tiny just gently wash them in the soapy rag, then squeeze out the fresh washrag in the warm water only bowl and wipe them down, then if you have one of those flea and tick combs (they have tiny teeth) gently comb out the fleas, these fleas are not dead just waterlogged, so i have antoher big bowl of water and after each combing i swish it around so i do not put the fleas back on the kittens. then gently dry them, get an eyedropper and feed them this formula, half n half, a pinch of sugar and a teaspoon of instant baby cereal, make sure it is warm not hot! they will love this then get a heating pad put it on low and put a clean dry towel over it then put the kittens on it then gently lay a light pillow case on top of the babies, you might put all this in a small box that way they will feel more comfortable. also you CAN! use advantage kitten flea formula when they are as young as 5 weeks just ask your vet, god bless and please eme on how everything goes

I don't remember where I read it, but a couple of years back I read that if you soak your pet's collar in mint oil (I think) that fleas and ticks can't stand it. It also has the added bonus of being all natural which should in no way harm your kitten. When you notice the fleas starting to return, clean the collar and reapply the mint oil. Hope it helps. Ooh, just found an interesting web site, maybe it will help.

Frontline and Advantage are not safe on animals less than 8 weeks old. There is NO safe spot on treatment for an animal that young. There are two products you need to use. NaturVet Herbal Flea Powder - all natural, safe for use on any age cat/dog. Then, bathe kitty with Farnam Pet Products BioGuard shampoo. It too, is safe for use on any age cat/dog. (You can also get Frontline and Advantage at a premium pet store)

What ever you do NO over the counter flea meds or essentails oils - they can and will kill!! Bath in dawn dish washing detergent - DO NOT GET INTO FACE!! It will stunn the fleas and then start brushing. I know it is a pain but brushing is essential at this time since ther are so young and vonerable - just keep brushing and bring her to the vet for a good once over!!!

The kitties need a topical (applied to the skin) flea medication. If you use soap, the eggs will remain and flees will continue to reappear. A topical solution should be applied ASAP because fleas can be very debilitating to such a young cat. Make an appointement to see a vet, or if you can't afford it, contact your local pet shelter, they may be able to help you.

This happened to me once. The vet told me to bring it in but I didn't have the $. So they told me to sprey a towel and to wrap the kitten in it. Be careful of the face. I would put some on your fingers then apply it to the face carefully. Make sure when you wrap it to have the face done because the fleas will run right to the face.

Put Advantage or Frontline on the mother. This will take care of the fleas on the kittens also.

I used to wash my kittens in water with Irish Spring soap. I know I read it somewhere that Irish Spring killed fleas more than others. If it's true or not, I don't know. I remember even washing my dogs in it instead of dog shampoo, it seemed to work.
