you cannot help them, they must help themselves. do not enable them or make excuses for them. Contact your local ALANON chapter. Call your local AA chapter and they can direct you to ALANON. This is a good support group for the loveones of an alcoholic, drug addict. I lived with my ex for seven years before I said enough was enough and to this day he blames me for all of his problems. Remeber this always, you did not cause it, you cannot control it, and you cannot cure it. Only the alcoholic can make those changes and sometimes it takes them to bottom out by loosing everything they had before they wake up. Take care of yourself and get yourself better. Contact ALANON immediatly.

You can't stop a person from doing something they want to do but you can show them how their behavior is affecting you and the other people that they love. Gather the other people that are interested in the person's drinking habits and have an intervention.

An intervention is just a way to call attention to the person so they can see how they've been acting.

they should have lots of more information for you.

To answer your question, you yourself cannot stop another from drinking, they will not stop until they are ready to stop drinking. The only real advice I can give is to suggest they attend an alcohol anonymous meeting in your local area. To find out about meetings in your area, Alcohol Anonymous as a hotline number which yiou can find on the internet. I hope this works I will keep him or her in my prayers.

I've been there, with my ex. You can't stop them from drinking unless they really want to quit. The doctor even told him he was going to die if he didn't stop and that didn't even work.

Leave them to wallow in their misery. They need to hit bottom. It's called tough love, and they won't quit or get help unless they really want to, for themselves. They won't quit for anyone else.

Your intervention may not be enough, but you have to keep at it. Enlist the help of others to help them stop drinking.

Talk to them. Tell them how much it is bothering you. Or scare them, by showing them what can happen. I dont want to be mean but sometimes you have to scare people to knock some sense into them.
