I have a pentax optio 50 with simple,program,portrait, landscape,sport, and night-scene settings

The night scene setting should do a better job than others. Ideally, you should have manual shutter speed control so that you can set it to a low shutter speed. The night mode will do the same automatically, I assume.

Oh, one thing. With low shutter speed (or with night mode), you will have to keep the camera extremely still, if possible on a tripod or a wall or a chair or something. Only then, you will get good sharp photos otherwise even the slightest movement will result in blurred photos.

I don't think the Optio 50 will give you a very good shot at making fireworks photos. The camera has a good file size and the ASA can go as low as 50 BUT the shutter speed can go no lower than 1/2 second. This is too short. You need 3-6 seconds of exposure to allow the fingers of the fireworks to cascade. Sorry.

Night. though im pretty sure u wont get great results.
but cameras in canons POWERSHOT SD series has FIREWORKS MODe made entirely for fireworks!
