okay everyone here has seen the age-old question, "do Christians really follow everything in their Bible."
this question always ends up being a trap. if I say yes, that means I'm a murderer who stones children to death. if I say no, that means I'm a hypocrit who doesn't obey my faith.
do nonChristians really like this all-or-nothing mentality?

I don't know about all non christians. I can only answer for myself. I am not an all or nothing kind of girl. I take a little bit from everywhere and if it works for me and my spirituality, then I run with it. If it doesn't or it's negative, I leave it alone.

But since we're talkiing "all or nothing" mentality, let me ask you this. What's with christians and the all or nothing? I get a lot of "you're either with us, and say this is the one and only true way, or your against us and must be converted or damned to he*l." Wouldn't you say that was rather our way or the highway?

It seems that christians won't accep the fact that there are lots and lots of really wonderful and good people out there who just don't happen to accept that your spiritual path is the same one that they should take. Why should they be persecuted for this? Why can't you believe what you do, and we believe what we do, and everyone be happy? My sprituality is no better or worse than yours. Why is your way the one true way?

I am not Christian, Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, or any of the other various religions you can think of.
It is my feeling that all religions contain some form of hypocracy, from the basest system of belief all the way through to the highest levels, and that, because of this, organized religion is flawed, and will remain so for all eternity.
Now, don't get me wrong, I fully support anyone's right to whatever religion they subscribe to, and, at the same time, fully believe that they believe what they are supporting.
As for the "all or nothing" mentality, not all Christians have this. I've known a great number of them who have kind of picked their favorite things to follow, and discarded many others along the way. Christianity, and really any other religious system, has not grown with the times and with the advances of sociological growth and change. To say that you do or do not follow everything in the bible, torah, corran, or whatever really should have no bearing on anything other than yourself and your own system of beliefs.
So, to answer the question posted, I do believe that this line of inquiry should be retired, and, really, any type of question that would make one uncomfortable with his or her beliefs should not really be asked in an open, public access forum of this type. There are, I'm sure, many sites that are dedicated to this type of discussion and set up to have debates about who follows what in which religion.

This is the type of questions asked of Jesus. The law said to stone those caught in adultery. When the woman was brought forth, they asked Jesus about it. If he said no, he would be in disobedience to the law...etc What did Jesus do, he did not answer immediately, he crouched down and started drawing in the sand. He looked up and then said "let he who is without sin cast the first stone" again he bent down and continued to draw in the sand. One by one the crowd left until there was no one left there. Jesus looked up at the woman and asked where have they all gone? Is there no one here to condemn you? Then he added "Nor do I"..go and commit this sin no more. What makes us any different or deserving of any treatment different from that of Jesus. People will be always trying to trick and trap us. Do any of you know what Jesus wrote in the sand? He was writing the sins of the people, one by one beginning with the eldest first in the sand and when they each realized this they turned and went away. Jesus tells us to be as meek and humble as a Lamb, yet as sly as a fox. When questions like this are presented, if no one answers, they will go away when they realize they are not going to trap or ensnare us.

The problem is that people and those who have read the bible, but not studied it have absolutely no idea how to interpret it, take it in context regarding the culture and history of the times, the various factors and symbolism that we learn during bible studies and at church.

We do follow everything in the bible - in context. We don't always do well at it; we fall, but we, unlike them, are forgiven.

The best way to defend our faith is to learn it more, study it further, understand it better; to go deeper, further with greater understanding.

Usually, when people ask trick questions it's because they really could care less about your response and really just want to see your reaction. That's why we must remember to show everyone love no matter what question they ask us. Jesus loves these people anyway, and we as christians should do the same. Usually people who ask trick questions, or respond to questions with sarcasm or mockery, do these things as a defense mechanism. So, instead of getting mad with these people we should just pray for them. KEEP THE FAITH! GOD BLESS!

Well non-Christians, including myself, ask this question to exploit the hypocracy of organized-religion. It's asked to doubt your beliefs and your slave-like adherence to a supernatural being. If one part of the Bible is fake or incorrect, why give any merit to any of the other parts of the Bible?

Yes, there is not one perfect person on this earth. Some try harder to be better people than others. Definitely retire the question. It's common sense nobody is perfect. They know this.

I think that you can answer this ? b/c not everything in it is to be interpruted litteraly and if people without the benefit of religion ask you this ? in hopes of cornering you they are total idoits with no life and no sense of right and wrong. These are the people who are in a dire need of religion.

I think people should respect other people's religions. Asking double ended questions isn't right no matter who is on the receiving end.
