We hang out a lot. He smiles at me. Hes very polite. But how do i know if he just wants to be friends or he likes me.

he looks at u in this different way that other people dont and just eye contact or when too mcuh of it, he looks away, thats what happened to me, so, yeahp
now, how often is that whole ahnging out thing?
evryday? (yes, he wants to be with u), once a week(hes not sure yet but hes starting to)
or sometimes u dont no becaue guys get shy too

Do this as a test...start talking to him about some crazy thing such as shopping with your friends at the mall or something like that and make it a drawn out boring conversation...if he listens to you he likes you...no seriously if he picks on you or tickles you he probably likes you.

Just see if they're paying lots of attention to you. When I like a girl, i just keep on looking back and forth on what I'm doing and on her.

Does he ask you to go to places with him or when you go somewhere does he ask do you need to be accompanie by him. Does joke around with you? Does he look at you eyes time to time? Does he talk to you more than usual or less? Does he talk about his personal life to you?

if he pays attention to you then he likes you. If you have little things between eachother and spend a lot of time together he like you. otherwise ask
