Only if you want to gain the weight back. You have to develop better eating habits for life just just for the duration of some diet. You have to keep eating healthy and exercising even after your diet is over.

I used to be a diet and exercise consultant so I know a few things. First of all, get rid of the word diet. If people eat to live rather than live to eat we all wouldn't all be battling our weight.
Food isn't just for our pleasure, it is fuel for our bodies. First of all increase your activity......yes that is called exercise. That needs to be a life time commitment. Nothing fancy.
Next.......eat healthy and small perportions. When it comes to junk food, make it a once in a while treat and not in a larger portion. Your appearence, your hair, your nails all depend on what you eat. Your body will age well if you eat well. Would you put a cheep sticky shampoo in your hair right before a date? Well your body is like that. Eventually what you put in it will make a difference.
So, to answer your question. Once you stop your diet. Make the decision to not ever diet again because you won't have to becasue you will be eating healthy and balanced. If you over eat one day, you just exercise a little bit more. Get a book about balanced diet. Make sure you eat protien, vegtables, friut, breads, and healthy calories. No more empty calories. Ok, once in awhlie.
One more thing......you know how it is when you don't eat all day or for a few days and then you do and you don't lose weight., What that is about....is that when your body doesn't get the nutrition it needs your brain says OMG we are in a fammine....we need to hang on to all the calories we can, especially the fatty calories. See........human in the past did live in times when there was little food in the winter months. So, the body hung on to calories and fat so the person could surrive through the hard times when foor was sparce. We don't live in those times anymore, but our bodies don't know that. Thus, the worse thing to do is not eat. Eat, smaller amounts more often, exercise and watch your body lose weight the healthy way. Because losing weight any other way usually isn't lasting, those pounds go right back on quickly.

If you want to keep the weight off, you must not go back to the way you used to eat, but you must make a dietary change that is permanent.
Get some daily exercise (like go for a 20 minute brisk walk every single day) and eat wisely. Totally avoid junk food, except as a once a week treat, and then, go easy on the stuff.
The way you gain weight is to eat/drink more calories than your body needs and just one soda a day adds about 100 calories. Multiply that by 365 days a year and you get 36500 too many calories, just from one can of soda a day. (36500 divided by 3500 = an extra 10.4 pounds of weight in one year). If you add a few extra calories to your diet each day, the weight will come back.
Diets are fads and difficult to stick with. If you've lost weight, now is the time to keep it off, but chose foods that are healthy and non fatty. Avoid fried stuff, sugary stuff, and almost everything that comes in a bag and can be munched on.

That's EXACTLY the reason why many diets don't work. People think that they can go on a diet for a couple months and then go back to how they ate and acted before, and its just not true. You need to keep eating healthy and being active. A diet should change your daily routines, not just your eating habits. Keep the diet going if it was working and exercise a couple times a week. And remember.....don't restrict yourself so much that you lose your mind.

Sure, if you want to gain all the weight you just lost back....go right ahead!!!
That's why DIETS are ALWAYS a BAD IDEA.
You have to CHANGE your EATING HABITS for LIFE not just for a few weeks.
Use the US Food Pyramid or Canada's Food Guide to learn proper nutrition and eating habits.
Watch your PORTION CONTROL, if you take a regular size dinner plate the general guideline is 1/2 vegetables and salad, 1/4 starch (potatoes, rice, noodles) and 1/4 protein (mean or meat alternative).
Yo-yo dieting will catch up with you later in life once you start having babies and can't get the weight back off...chose healthier eating habits now and they won't be so hard to maintain throughout your life.

You can't think of it as a diet if you are trying to lose weight and get healthy. You have to think of it as a lifestyle change. When you get to the weight you want to achieve, all you have to do is not sway from what was working. You can let yourself eat what you want when you crave it, but just don't go overboard. Just don't do it every day or your defeating the purpose of losing the weight to in the first place

The best advice is to keep track of you caloric intake and then make sure that you are expending an equal amount of what you are taking in if you want to maintain your weight--and expend more if you are wanting to loose.
Follow the food pyramid and just lead an active lifestyle (i.e. go swimming, bike riding, to the playground with friends or boyfriend--all just for fun), then you will find that the amount that you will actually need to "workout" will be a lot less. Just watch your calories and be active enough to balance it out! :)

I eat like a hog, gain all the weight back, then start all over again. I know, it's stupid, but it's what I do. Can't seem to get a handle on the moderation thing. Good Luck.
