Ah, this approach and technique dates way way back. It is a classic approach in courtship where the male whom deeply admires a female will test his limits so to speak, and to pay homage in some cases.
Back in a simpler time ( several hundred years back. Think kings and popes emperors ) this kissing of the hand originated from those of higher nobility and respectability wearing rings in which certifies power or an image. By Kissing the ring a person would pay homage and thus accept the power or image as his chief governing. Eventually the rings were faded out and it ended up being the mans wish to pay homage to a female in order to woo her strombers.
In the modern day time the male would kiss the hand of the female if he wishes to present himself as old fashioned and romantic. It currently serves a double purpose. 1 it shows that he is thoughtful and caring of your feelings and wishes to show respect while appearing romantic. and 2, he is watching your reaction to his kissing of your hand to determine whether or not a kiss on the lips would be acceptable. If you are repulsed by his kissing of the hand, he will probably believe that you do not want to be kissed what so ever. However if you are kind and gentle to his display of affection then it will encourage him for the kiss.

Huh? Never heard of a guy kissing his hand before kissing a girl. He is probably just checking to see if he has bad breath. He is probably breathing into his hand and sniffing it. That makes more sense than the kissing thing. I have seen lots of people, of both sexes, do this.

I assume you mean why does the guy kiss the girls hand before kissing the girls lips!
They do that cuz it's the gentleman's thing to do! My man did it the night we met, we are now married, and he still does it atleast once a day!

They're probably trying to make sure it's ok. If she doesn't allow him to kiss her hand, then obviously she isn't ready for a kiss on the lips.

That is a very old fashioned way to greet a woman...very few men do that nowadays. I think it's chivalrous and romantic!! It was commonplace in the 1800's going up to about 1940's.

Well, I first thought "maybe a sign of poison" ...But if he kisses his own hand?? That's strange - to me at least. I guess it's a kiss-of-something beginning with his lips, his hand, and your lips....Is that believable?? Romantic maybe?

I believe he is trying to show a sign of respect to you. Because if I ever get a chance to I would do that to the girl I like.
