It seems to me that my atheist friends take note of terrible things, socially, politically and in peoples' personal lives and acknowledge that such things happen, but few present any solutions for individuals and societies. If you are weak then "that is too bad". Communism was an atheist attempt tp present a framework for society to build upon. At least Christianity offers answers.

Religion is only a negative influence when it becomes an excuse for a problematic orthodoxy or for a leader's personal agenda. Christianity has been abused in the past to justify the various Crusades, aristocracy, slavery (Jesus was "as white as snow", etc. etc.), coverture, the list goes on.

Religion, like other unifying factors (nationalism, for example), are not bad in and of themselves, but lend themselves subject to great abuse. A society built upon the *virtues* valued by the many religions, along with mutual respect between humans, would be the most preferable one, IMHO: whether such a society is even possible, however, is another question entirely.

(Disclaimer: I am not an atheist, but a Deist.)

So, what, we are supposed to have all the solutions for the trouble religion has caused? We are not as large as a group and it is impossible for a smaller group to get ahead and make things right if the larger group won't straighten up! At least we SEE the bad that happens and don't take it as a good thing like some religious groups!

Don't even try to pair that communist crap with us. If you want to go there, Christianity has destroyed cultures and people and is a bully and attempts to FORCE other people to take up THEIR "answers" you are so sure it has. It has had FAR worse impact on people worldwide then non-belief ever will.

Edit: cocoa.girl "Amen!!!! I think all atheists must be childless b/c who could have a child of their own and not believe in God?"

Gee that was rude and closed minded. Why not ask my parents and all the other atheists with kids and my own kids if/when I have them someday.

If atheists just always complain then how come you just sit there and think up excuses for your ingnorance.,m and why is it then whenever an atheists ask a good question out of curiousity a whole bunch of christians come by and try to convert them, well I'll just stick to my way and decide not to believe in anything, because until the world can do that we will be stuck here arguing this same argument for thousands of years. I am not an atheist or believer of any religion I'm just me.

Oh yeah and to answer your question atheists are trying to get rid of religion that is a solution.

Most Christians I know are capitalists...and as far as I know Jesus was the furthest thing from a capitalist. What the heck are you talking about? If Christianity was really from Jesus then the Christian world would be proof of that. At least atheists are opening their eyes to the problems and not just blindly following what the polyester wearing preacher tells them.

If religion is to blame for many of the world's ills then the solution is to do away with religion, obviously. Education is the key - That's why the religious fight so hard to take over schools and keep people stupid.

Christianity offers false hope. I say we should abolish religion, and in about 200 years peopel will have forgotten all about it and realize taht they were stupid for worshipping a made up face in the sky. When we become advanced enough, we will convert to a global socialist government, which is ideal anyways, but people need to stop being greedy and selfish in order for it to work.

What if the answers Christianity offers are wrong?

I think we are better off with total separation of Church and State, encouragement of diversity (gay rights, same-sex marriage), protection of natural resources/environment, development of alternative energy sources, participation/support of UN, not attacking foreign countries except in self defense.... and I could go on and on.

There are many things we could do now to make things better, but sadly the conservative movement that has currently taken power has worsened our current state of affairs.

Christian's who step into government thinking they know best because the think God speaks to them are just as dangerous as the bunch who attacked us on 9/11.

My solution? Abolish religion. There you go. Failing that, kill all the hypocrites religious or otherwise.
Christianity may offer answers, but as they are not the RIGHT answers, then it is just as bad as not having any at all. Communism failed due to hypocrisy.

Religion does cause many serious problems, that is undisputable. Here's what they've been saying but you were to idiotic to notice; rid the world of religion. It's not that hard of a concept.
