I've been obsessing over the fat on my stomach. I understand that everyone has a little bit fat, but I am desperate for a flat tummy. I've been exercising a lot more, and I keep chugging water bottles (it makes me feel full and not want to eat). Could I be developing anorexia?

(I know I should talk to my mother or something about this but a couple of months ago I had told her I thought I was fat and might need some help and she got super mad.)

I've also noticed that I constantly count my calories and carb.s, and if there is "too much" for me I will exercise constantly. I can't stop doing this, it's like an instinct. I'm afraid. I don't want to be anorexic, but I don't want to be fat.

You could be developing anorexia and you're wise and brave for worrying about it and asking. You could also be doing some body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) stuff. I say this because it's not as if anorexia is rare, and the obsessive/compulsive behavior associated with it can progress and get more severe over time. You do need some emotional support for this, if nothing else to figure out a way to measure your self worth by something other than having a flat stomach, which isn't natural in most people.

Allright, here's the thing - if you think that you may be anorexic at this point, you're not. Desperation to lose weight and chugging water to feel full are usually not signs of anorexia, they are signs of a desire to fit in to a societal norm. However, this desire to avoid eating is a problem that you do need to face. Here's the thing - you are actually making your stomach situation worse by not eating often enough.

In order to remain healthy, every person must consume a certain number of calories just to allow proper body function. This number of calories varies from person to person, but those who exercise regularly need more than those who don't. If you don't consume enough, you will begin to feel the effects, including fatigue, constant hunger, and a noticible increase in how often you get sick and the duration of those illnesses. Also, your body is made to survive. Therefore, when you don't eat enough, your body's metabolism slows down. This will cause you to retain a much larger portion of the calories that you do eat as fat.

If you want to lose the stomach weight in a healthy way, which will reduce your risk of anorexia, eat 4-6 smaller meals a day with a total of at least 2000 - 2500 calories for the day. Try to eat a meal plan that is high in vegetables and low-fat protein (chicken, lean beef, turkey, etc.) and moderate in slow-digesting carbs (whole grain breads, sweet potatoes, high-fiber fruits, etc.). This will get you well on your way to losing the weight you want to lose while still keeping yourself adequately nourished. Once you realize that you can acheive both, your chances of becoming anorexic will all but disappear. Good luck.

Note: If you truly believe that you are or are about to become anorexic, please consult with a local mental health professional as soon as possible. It is much easier to cure the problem if you face it early on.

first of all u dont just getttt anorexia...

i'd say u were weight concious...

my advice is to not go over the edge where you are hardly eating anything......because i hope u know that the less u eat, the easier and quicker the body stores fat....and u could end up actually gaining weight because the body works against u in the initial stages before it starts eating at itself

control your meals (but dont skip them) and continue with the exercise...

remember: if u eat small healthy meals at regular intervals during the day...the faster your metabolism would be in addition to exercising

You don't get a flat stomach from not eating, on the contrary, make sure you eat well in the morning and only low-fat in the evening. And exercise. If you don't eat, your stomach will end up like those in Africa.

Better to talk to your doctor.

Have you reduced the amount of food that you eat? That is another sign. Lots of exercising far beyond what is normal (like doing 1000 push-up a day)? Another marker.

You could be. You need to tell a parent and get some help. Anorexia is no way of life. Get help before it gets out of control.

this is no joke! Have a friend or parent take you to your dr. if your parents will not listen. Talk to a professional right away! Go to your pastor if nothing else-they will help you seek help!

Talk to your doctor. If he/she believes you have anorexia tendencies then they should be advising you on getting support. Please do this ASAP so you can get the help you need.

Self commit your self. to the ER, or local Pych-ward. Your mother will have to deal with it or loses you. That will prove how much she loves you.
