Itching in dogs can be caused by several things. There are food allergies, outdoor allergies, flea allergies, skin infections, different types of mange, dry skin, etc. The only way to tell what is going on in your particular situation is to have your vet check him out. The doctor can figure out what is wrong and tell you how to treat it.

Not trying to make a sale here, but AVON's Skin So Soft Bath Oil is really helpful for animals. It gives them a smooth skin and coat and helps to protect from fleas and other bugs. I bathe my animals once a week with it, mixing it 1 part Oil to 4 parts warm water. Just a thought.....As far as normal shedding, it's summer and he's probably hot, just a course of life... But with a healthier coat it should help a lot. I have a list of Skin So Soft uses fro animals if you'd like it.

Oatmeal baths (not too often no more than once every other month, too many baths can lead to dry skin) A little bit of Benadryll will help with the scratching. Get the vet to test him for allergies.

Your dog could have an allergy. Perhaps an allergy to food. Try switching your dog food to an all natural one. Do it gradually though, over a week's time. Iswitched my Dalmatian's food and it did wonders. He had terrible skin problems. I recommend the Fromm brand of natural dog food. It's a little more expensive than the regular stuff, but it's worth it. It will probably help your dog's skin condition, and also any other problems he may have.

Try and dog shampoo or people shampoo with oatmeal in it. Sounds funny, but it works. My lab had dry skin and I bought him a special dog shampoo at wal*mart with oatmeal in it. And my mom has lots of dogs and she uses dog shampoo and people shampoo with oatmeal as well. check the pet section at walmart or the beauty supplies like where the lipstick and stuff is. Sometimes they have it there. Or just go to the section where you buy your regualr shampoo. And try a dog food with oil in it. Feeding up scrambled eggs will help too.

Good possibility of an allergy of some sort... most likely food... take a look at what you are feeding him... even the most expensive foods at the grocery store are mid-range in quality. Soy and wheat are the top two allergens in dogs.

See your vet. If it is an allergy problem, it can be difficult to pin down the problem and find out what works for your dog.

You're probably not supposed to bath him so much, and try to use oatmeal shampoos.
