at least for now: Do people understand that the need for immigration reform is a move to benefit both our country, and other countries, including Mexico? That having an honest process for people living and working in different places is better than sliding under the door?

In the current debate over immigration, virtually all politicians--Republicans and Democrats alike--agree that the U.S. has to control its borders. But it’s only the southern border that they’re concerned about.

Since September 11 especially, politicians claim that tougher enforcement on the U.S.-Mexico border is of utmost importance in stopping terrorism. But not a single documented case of terrorists “infiltrating” the U.S has occurred at the Mexican border.

The politicians’ concerns about border control have nothing to do with security--and everything to do with using Mexican immigrants as scapegoats.

A look at the numbers proves this. Some 250 million people cross the border between Mexico and the U.S. each year. Less than 1 percent cross without authorization.

No, those people who feel justified in coming to the USA illegally will not understand that legal immigration will benefit their country, the USA, and themselves. No, these people will not stop to consider and understand this. I don't think that anything that has been posted on this forum will persuade people in this way. Some of these postings, if read by intelligent people in the USA who perhaps were previously pro-illegal immigrant may be persuaded by some of the postings here, I think, but I don't know for sure. I wonder if people would admit here if their feelings and opinions have been swayed by anything they have read here, either pro or con regarding illegal immigration. Maybe that will be my next question here....

Mexicans need to clean up their own back yard. There is no good reason for a country as large and rich as Mexico to have 500,000 economic refugees per year crossing our common border illegally. The status quo in MX depends on that safety valve to keep real reform from happening in Mexico.

Im not against immigration at all. But i believe that it should be done legally. Also i believe that we should only allow a certain amount of immigrants from each country to come into the Untied States ,legally, per year. I think that that would be better then letting immigrants to come whenever.

That is true. But ask yourself, is this good for both economies? The U.S.A. is still battling in Irak, a very expensive task, and needs a growing economy. Mexico, with 50 million in poverty needs the money sent back. So as I perceive it, both are gaining now. Do you actually think both governments want to change this?

Yes.I agree. But I don't want mass deportations.Secure the friggin borders, and give them amnesty.Stop the flow of illegals. It's not fair to ppl trying to migrate here legally, but it's rational.More rational than deporting millions of ppl.I think ppl get caught up in the numbers.

Yes,you're right!! It will benefit Americans,by saving us BILLIONS in social services, raising wages for AMERICAN workers, and opening JOBS up for American workers!! And, it will SAVE our hospitals from closing!!
And it will be good for mexico, because then THEY will have to deal with their OWN poor people!! They will have to provide jobs for their own people, and then the ones HERE will be able to go back home!!!! It's a WIN/WIN situation!!! EXCEPT for the GREEDY business owners!!!

I agree. However, it has to be limited immigration that can be absorbed by our services. Otherwise it needs to be done in such a way that those services are funded by employers.
