And what would that reason be?

If someone is dying-they could visit

No hospital has records to show starvation of the mass coming in
No Nation Disasters--earthquakes, fire, bombs

Kid abuse--are you telling me no one in Mexico has heart?--We can't help the world-some countries must take care of their responsibilities. Nice if we could-but can't. I also worked with kids on the level-sad-happens here too.

Again what would be that sensible reason be?

"What if....." There is a set of laws in place to address that particular "legitimate reason", then the act of crossing a soveriegn nations border in defiance of the laws which are in place is a criminal act.
There are American embassies and consulates in Mexico & most countries around the world, if a person has a "legitimate" reason to escape from Mexico or any other country for that matter, there are proccesses in place which will address that particular need. Lawfully.

Nope - that person needs to seek the resources of his/her own country for help in their abusive situation. We have help for justifiable refugees in this country, but a person's situation has to fit the qualifications for refugee status and that would be laid out in the immigration site of the country the refugee is going to try to go to. Abuse such as family or spousal is not looked upon as a reason for refugee status.

NO SUCH THING AS A LEGITIMATE REASON FOR DOING AN ILLEGAL ACT.

Your revised question is:

>>What if there was a legal reason for someone to come here not legal?<<

I’d say only if they were blind and needed to buy binoculars.
