Eat protein and starchy foods. Pasta (2 meals a day) potatoes 2 meals a day, steak and chicken.

The more meals you eat, the higher your metabolism will be. If you want to gain muscle mass, drink some protein shakes as well as work out. Your weight training program should include one or two days a week of maximum weight training. Which means work out with the max you can lift doing 3 to 5 reps in each area. Your muscles will expand if you work them harder.
To tone up your muscles and not gain mass, simply work out in reps of 20 with lower weights. Run often, you'll need endurance for your basic training.

Depends on how much you need to gain. If it is just a few pounds, then before you go back to MEPS, eat a box of Saltine Crackers, with salt, and a gallon of water. This will increase your weight temporarily, until you use the restroom. Otherwise, Do weightbuliding exercises (push ups, pull ups, sit ups), eat pasta and avoid running too much.

I assume that since you ship on 20 July, you met the minimum weight standard. I know a guy at Bragg that has to drink four glasses of water before he weighs in to meet the minimum. The good news it, they won't kick you out for that once you're in. Try eating a lot of starchy foods, like rice and bread.
