There is no real answer to this question but what I have learned of what love is to me and that is the word LOVE itself holds the answer.......
(L)isten: and Validate them by hearing and empathizing.
(O)verlook: their minor character flaws as they will overlook yours.
(V)alue: who they are and what they mean to you.
(E)xpress: how you love them not just with words but with actions.

Only a Mystery could ask about this Mystery.
Real Love or True Love is the Strongest and most Pure emotion that any human can feel. It should never be confused with Romance which is often the attractive force and emotion that one feels in a relationship.
Any human can look for Romance and most can usually find it. Romance has to do with connecting to another who has your personal Romantic Ideals. Romance is different from Love because it is conditional (based upon these ideals) and therefore it will always fade over time (as the true nature of the lover come out into reality). Perhaps this is the Love refered to in the song.
True Love can never be found, no matter where and how you look for it. Usually when you stop looking for it, it finds you, typically out of the blue and in a place or person that you never would have expected. One must only become aware of Love and then accept it.
True Love is unconditional, in that the other person is totally accepted just as they are, complete with all of their faults and human traits. Even if these do not fit any personal ideals.
Commitment only enters because, unlike Romance or Romantic Love, True Love does not fade with time. Once accepted, it continues (perhaps forever, but at least until Death).
Often Love is associated with true Empathy. Two humans sharing one Emotion (... and the two become one). This is not "second hand" it is a true sharing in the Here and Now, no matter how separated by Time and Space.
What am I willing to give for Love? Under most circumstances, a human is not required to give anything for it. It is not about give and take, it is about sharing. If I said that I would give my life for it, one should not believe that I would trade my life (in death) to obtain Love, but rather I would Devote my remaining life to expressing this Love. This is the commitment.

I just answered a question like this. To me, its not really something you should have to ask yourself. There is no question of whether or not you are in love. Either you are, or you aren't. Its more of a feeling to me, but of course, that feeling requires commitment... but the type of commitment you are WILLING to give. It's not just one emotion. It's a mix. But there is no real "definition" for true love, other than your own gut feeling.

Love is not lightening, but the beginning of your light forever
as far as dark is from day or bright is from night.
Love is not a summit, but a steady mountain rising from you to
fill my soul beyond space or understanding.
Love is not a moment, but the every day you open my mouth
and let me taste the fruit of your soul's deepest roots.
Love is not a feeling, but a thousand things you make our home of
with the touch of your hands like a nest from a dove.
Love is not paradise, but the struggle of all time not to lose
hope in what is not perfect yet is purest truth:
Love does good, or is not.

Love is passion, intimacy, and commitment. You can have any one of them, any combination, or all three.
Passion alone = Infatuate Love
Intimacy alone= Like
Commitment alone = Empty love
Passion + Intimacy = Romantic love
Passion + Commitment = Fatuous love
Initimacy + Commitment = Companionate love
All three = Consummate Love

Love is a state of being. It is the state of appreciating and enjoying life and people and everything else. I would give nothing because Love is everything and it is unnecessary to give anything. Love is within all of us- all we need to do is realize it.
Love means attraction to some, and that is one way of interpreting it. I would not give much for this love because it is quick to change and temporary. Lasting contentment is much more valuable to me. Liebe und Frieden.

I think love is an amazing thing to have. And when you have it, you just know. It's almost like that can't eat, can't sleep, reach for the stars, over the fence..world series kinda thing. =p...It's when that special person is away you feel like you're missing a part of yourself.
