Well, I was about to answer some awesomely blunt insult in response to your question until I read your follow-up in which you said you do believe in God. It is so refreshing to hear someone come forth for God, as in Jesus our Christ. God Bless you. But then, He already has and will continue to do so because of your question. But . . . God Bless you - anyway. I couldn't close any correspondence any other way.

No.
There's no need for someone to have designed the universe -- as we've learned more and more about the natural workings of things through science, time and time again we find simple, physical, non-supernatural explanations for how things came to be, how they continue to work, and how they change over time. We've never found a reason or need for a god to have created things, no indication that there's any designer behind any of it, and no need for a god to keep it all running.
Humans invented gods to attempt to explain things they didn't understand, attributing the "unknowable" to actions of supernatural beings. The things they wanted to attribute to gods were simple -- lightning, rainbows, comets, etc. Science has easily explained all of those things without Thor throwing lightning bolts, Jehovah making rainbows after the flood, or comets being harbingers of doom. The "unknowable" fear-based reasons to believe in gods have disappeared over the years, and the method we use to discover REAL truth (science) gives us confidence that nothing is ultimately unknowable.
If believing in some god, an afterlife, etc. gives you some false comfort, then by all means go ahead. But remember that it's not real...:)

Yes, I do believe in God. I believe in the God of Christianity. A God who loved me so much that He sent His Son to die for me. A God who will never leave me nor forsake me.
